English Proficiency Exemptions

All applicants, regardless of citizenship, must provide proof of English proficiency to be considered for admission to Marshall University.  To be exempt from providing standardized exam scores (i.e., TOEFL, IELTS), one of the following conditions must be met:

  1. completion of the equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma or U.S. post-secondary degree from an accepted, accredited institution in an approved country where the primary language is English;
  2. transfer credit equivalent to ENG 101 from an accepted, accredited institution with grade of C or better; or
  3. successful completion of an approved ESL program (i.e., Marshall University English Language Institute).
