Between figuring out your schedule, finding your classrooms, juggling work and extracurriculars and hanging out with friends (or meeting new ones), it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Trust us — we’ve all been there! The good news is we’ve rounded up some tips that actually work so your first week is a lot smoother.

Get organized early: Whether you’re a digital planner or you prefer a physical calendar, it’s important to get your schedule and deadlines in order now. Use a calendar or app to track classes, assignments and work commitments. Find whatever method works for you — and don’t be afraid to change it up if it’s not.

Manage time effectively: You’ll quickly discover there’s a lot happening during your first week. Try to plan ahead and prioritize what needs to be done each day.

Show up to class! We know — it sounds obvious. But seriously, go to class! Participate, ask questions and stay engaged. Not only will it help you learn the material, but your instructors will notice, which can make a difference down the road.

Learn the Marshall campus: Before the first day, do a quick test run to find your classes so you aren’t running across campus on day one.

Find your Herd: The first week is also about meeting new people and getting involved. Attend orientations, club fairs and intro meetings. With more than 250 active organizations and clubs, there’s truly something for everyone. Plus, you never know when a random event or club might introduce you to your new best friend or hobby.

Take care of yourself: College life can get busy fast, so make sure you’re staying fueled, hydrated and well rested — and build in time for breaks. Take a yoga class at the Rec Center, go for a walk or meet a friend for coffee. And remember, if you need it, Marshall’s Counseling Center is always here for you.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help: There are tons of people at Marshall who are happy to answer your questions and point you in the right direction. Faculty, staff, resident advisors, desk assistants and assistant area coordinators are extremely knowledgeable and ready to help! You don’t have to figure out everything on your own.

If you’re starting your first week at Marshall, welcome! And if you’re a returning student, welcome back! Not yet a student but thinking about it? Come visit! We even offer golf cart tours (and trust us, they’re worth it).

[2

post-705","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog
["GET
