It’s busy, challenging and often exhausting, but you’ve made it this far, and you can absolutely finish strong. Here are some tips to help you stay focused, energized and motivated during that final stretch.

Break larger tasks into smaller chunks: Tackling big assignments or projects can feel overwhelming. One way to make it more manageable is to break tasks into smaller, actionable steps. (Fun fact: This is actually a proven method called “chunking”!)

Set clear goals with deadlines: Writing down every important deadline helps you stay organized and focused. When you know exactly what needs to be done and when, it’s easier to prioritize tasks.

Build in small rewards for yourself: We all love a little incentive, right? Set a goal and then treat yourself when you complete it. Grab coffee at your favorite spot, watch another episode of Stranger Things, enjoy a little chocolate or head out for a quick game of pickleball. Find what works for you to help you stay motivated.

Mix up your routine to avoid burnout: Sometimes sticking to the same study spot or schedule can feel exhausting. Try a new location on campus, switch up your study times or work alongside a friend for moral support. A little variety can go a long way!

Take care of yourself: You’ve heard it before, but it’s worth repeating, especially at the end of the semester. Make sure to get enough sleep, eat well (skip the junk food if you can) and fit in some exercise — even a quick 15-minute walk counts! And trust us: The all-nighter may be tempting, but it’s rarely the best option (and yes, we’ve learned that one the hard way!).

Connect with your friends: After staring at a laptop and books for days, it’s just as important to connect with real people — not screens! This could mean forming a study group or simply hanging out and checking in to see how everyone is doing. Remember, you’re not the only one in this situation.

Visualize the finish line: Picture yourself sending in your last assignment or walking out of your final exam. You’ve worked hard, and you can do this!

Marshall offers a variety of support services to help students, especially during the end-of-semester crunch.
