At Marshall, about 275 students are placed in part-time Federal Work-Study jobs each year. But what exactly is it, and how do you know if you qualify? Here’s a quick breakdown:

What it is: Federal Work-Study is a program that provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate financial need.

Where the jobs are: Most positions are located on Marshall’s campus, but there are also off-campus opportunities. Some students work in campus offices, while others gain experience at local nonprofits.

How it works: You find out the maximum amount of Federal Work-Study you’re allowed in your Financial Aid Package. You’ll also be paid directly every two weeks; these earnings are not applied to your student account. Plus, your work study earnings are excluded from your income on next year’s FAFSA, so they won’t affect your future financial aid eligibility.

How to apply: To be considered, you must indicate interest in Federal Work-Study when you complete your FAFSA. Once your eligibility is confirmed, you can search and apply for available positions at Marshall. Don’t wait to apply — some positions fill quickly!

Still have questions or want more information?
