We did the hard part and narrowed it down to five you seriously need to know. Whether you’re a freshman or thinking about joining the Herd, we’ve got you covered! Here’s the inside scoop on five must-visit places at Marshall:

Memorial Student Center and Memorial Fountain: These spots are basically the heart of campus life. The MSC has everything you need, including the campus bookstore, food options, student services and plenty of spots to study or just relax. Right outside, you’ll find the Memorial Fountain, which honors the 75 lives lost in the 1970 plane crash that took members of Marshall’s football team and coaching staff. It’s a quiet place to reflect and a pretty iconic part of campus.

Drinko Library: Here you’ll find state-of-the-art computers, multimedia training and presentation rooms, workstations and a 24-hour reading/study center.

Rec Center: There’s so much to do here. Whether you’re into personal training, group fitness classes, intramurals or even outdoor trips, the Rec Center has something for you. It’s also home to the Aquatic Center and hosts fun events like the Thundering Pickle Classic (an all-day pickleball tournament!) and Recfest. Bonus: it’s the largest on-campus employer for students, so if you’re looking for a job, this is a great place to start.

Joan C. Edwards Stadium: There’s nothing like catching the Thundering Herd play on a Saturday with your fellow students. Even if football isn’t your thing, you’ve got to experience at least one game! Students usually call it “The Joan,” and it’s the perfect spot to gather your friends and cheer on the Herd.

Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation: This new spot on campus opened in January 2024 and is home to the Brad D. Smith Schools of Business. It’s huge — 78,000 square feet! Inside, you’ll find a 360-seat auditorium, a finance lab with Bloomberg terminals, a computer lab and classrooms with ThinkHub tech so you can work solo or with your friends.

Not a Marshall student yet?
