Do not use a windbreaker as a rain jacket!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sun protection:<\/strong><br \/>\nhat, sunglasses, sunscreen<\/li>\n<li><strong>Footwear:<\/strong><br \/>\nSturdy and supportive hiking\/walking shoes or boots (close-toed), comfortable &#8220;camp shoes&#8221;, something that can get wet (rafting)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal care items:<\/strong><br \/>\nFeminine products, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush\/comb, shaving supplies, travel mirror, lotion, ChapStick, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Towel:<\/strong><br \/>\nA quick-drying microfiber towel is recommended<\/li>\n<li><strong>Swimwear:<\/strong><br \/>\nTo wear during rafting<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medications<\/strong>:<br \/>\nPrescription and over-the-counter (if needed). Don\u2019t forget glasses\/contacts if needed!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flashlight\/headlamp:<\/strong><br \/>\nWith extra batteries<\/li>\n<li><strong>Canteen or water bottle:<\/strong><br \/>\n1 liter size or larger. Having two bottles is recommended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Optional Equipment<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Book or games:<\/strong><br \/>\nFor down time. Playing cards, frisbee, etc. Nothing expensive, electronic, or disruptive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spending money:<\/strong><br \/>\nThere may be a few gift shops or other opportunities to buy things.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gratuities:<\/strong><br \/>\nRecommended $10-15 for raft guides. Accessing an ATM during the trip is difficult, so we recommend cash for this.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day pack\/backpack:<\/strong><br \/>\nBig enough to carry essential items for the day (water bottle, snacks, notebook, extra clothes, etc.). Do not bring a drawstring bag for this.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hammock <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Bug spray <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Hand sanitizer:<\/strong><br \/>\nTravel size.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Small camp\/travel pillow:<\/strong><br \/>\nA stuff-sack or backpack filled with a towel or your extra clothing works well here!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extra snacks:<\/strong><br \/>\nWe\u2019ll provide some (trail mix, fresh fruit, raisins, etc.), but you may bring a small amount of additional treats if you\u2019d like.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Camera:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Digital or disposable. You will NOT be able to use a phone or iPad for this! The leadership team will have a couple cameras, and all photos will be shared with participants after the trip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Do NOT Bring<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or vaping products:<\/strong><br \/>\nGetting caught with any of these is grounds for immediate dismissal from the program and possible university sanctions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Firearms or other weapons:<\/strong><br \/>\nAgain, grounds for dismissal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cell phones or electronic devices:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe only exception is a digital camera (optional)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Anything else NOT on the packing list:<\/strong><br \/>\nWe\u2019ll do a gear check before departure. You may be asked to leave unneeded items behind in our secure storage space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please Note:<\/strong> Space in the vehicles is limited, so please only bring what you need for the duration of the trip.\u00a0 Secure storage space will be provided on the Marshall University campus for any unneeded personal items.\u00a0 Please be courteous to other participants by packing all of your personal items into one bag or pack.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Group Equipment: <\/strong>The following items will be provided by the MAP team, so you do not need to bring them with you:\u00a0 Tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, eating utensils (plate, bowl, cup, fork, knife, spoon), cookware, coolers, lanterns, food (meals and snacks).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Personal Equipment Clothing: Non-cotton, layers, several changes, extra socks and undergarments, warm clothes, sleepwear Outerwear: Prepare for wind, rain, cool temps at night, etc. Rain jacket: Waterproof, breathable, and with a hood is preferred.
