Historical Information<\/h2>\n

On September 18, 2014, the School of Art & Design opened a beautiful 2,200-square-foot gallery on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center<\/a> amid a flurry of excitement.\u00a0 The opening of the gallery was part of a community open house celebrating the opening of the Visual Arts Center. The inaugural exhibition, We ART Marshall, <\/em>featured artwork by students, faculty, and alumni of Marshall University.<\/p>\n

The gallery inside the Visual Arts Center is one of two dedicated art galleries at Marshall University. The other is the Birke Art Gallery<\/a> inside Smith Hall on Marshall University’s Huntington campus.\u00a0 There was one more art gallery in MU history.\u00a0 From 2009 until the Spring of 2014, The School of Art & Design operated Gallery 842<\/em>,<\/a> a satellite gallery on 4th Avenue in downtown Huntington.\u00a0 When the School of Art & Design moved into the Visual Arts Center, Gallery 842 was no longer needed since the new building had its own gallery space.<\/p>\n

The Visual Arts Center Gallery was renamed in February of 2016 for Charles W. and Norma C. Carroll.\u00a0 Charles and Norma Carroll<\/a> are Marshall University graduates who have given back in an extraordinary way.\u00a0 The Carrolls’ generous support of the School of Art & Design and Marshall University has made a difference in the lives of countless students.<\/p>\n

Today the Charles W. and Norma C. Carroll Gallery hosts a full program of exhibitions by Marshall Students, Faculty, and professional artists from across the country and even across the world including senior Capstone exhibitions and the popular Annual National Juried Exhibition.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
