{"id":1289,"date":"2015-08-18T12:57:13","date_gmt":"2015-08-18T16:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/art\/?p=1289"},"modified":"2016-02-24T12:59:27","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T17:59:27","slug":"university-of-rio-grande-collection-to-be-on-display-at-marshalls-birke-art-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/art\/university-of-rio-grande-collection-to-be-on-display-at-marshalls-birke-art-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Rio Grande collection to be on display at Marshall\u2019s Birke Art Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning Thursday, Aug. 27, collected prints from the University of Rio Grande\u2019s Greer Museum will be available to view at the Birke Art Gallery on Marshall University\u2019s Huntington campus.<\/p>\n<p>The works represent several projects conducted at the University of Rio Grande\u2019s printmaking studio under the guidance of Rio Grande Professor of Art Benjy Davies, according to Megan Schultz, Marshall\u2019s Visual Arts Center gallery director.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Among the works to be exhibited, \u201cIdentity Project\u201d by Brooklyn-based artist Traci Molloy addresses issues of violence, suicide and trauma in adolescents. Working with young people across the U.S. and adolescent refugees from distressed parts of the world, Molloy created collaborative portraits of her young subjects using a variety of mediums.<\/p>\n<p>Another project to be displayed is one initiated by Davies. In the Little River Print Project, Davies invited artists from around the region to work with his printmaking students to produce an edition.<\/p>\n<p>Schultz said projects like Davies\u2019 allow artists to experience the collaborative process of edition printing. The projects also give printmaking students a feel for what is means to work in a professional print shop.<\/p>\n<p>Participating artists for this project include the Huntington Museum of Art\u2019s Education Director Katherine Cox, Marshall alumnus Adrian Blackstock, Ohio-based artists Gerry Enrico and Laken Bridges, and others.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the exhibit will feature contemporary works donated to the Greer\u2019s collection, showcasing artists from around the U.S. working in a range of printmaking techniques, including an offset lithograph by renowned multimedia artist Bruce Nauman and nationally recognized printmaker Donald Roberts.<\/p>\n<p>Davies will give an informal gallery talk about his role in developing the Greer Museum\u2019s print collection and the various printmaking projects taking place at the University of Rio Grande at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Birke Art Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>The Birke Art Gallery, located in Smith Hall on Marshall\u2019s Huntington campus, is open weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please visit www.marshall.edu\/cam or e-mail galleries@marshall.edu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning Thursday, Aug. 27, collected prints from the University of Rio Grande\u2019s Greer Museum will be available to view at the Birke Art Gallery on Marshall University\u2019s Huntington campus.
