{"id":1511,"date":"2016-05-11T10:17:33","date_gmt":"2016-05-11T14:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/art\/?p=1511"},"modified":"2016-05-13T10:20:17","modified_gmt":"2016-05-13T14:20:17","slug":"huntington-area-art-society-to-offer-summer-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/art\/huntington-area-art-society-to-offer-summer-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Huntington Area Art Society to offer summer series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The summer series of the Huntington Area Art Society kicks off this evening with a new focus: artwork created in relationship to buildings, such as stained glass and public art on buildings.<\/p>\n<p>The first of three presentations, \u201cVon Gerichten Stained Glass: An American Tradition,\u201d will be led by guest presenter Dennis Shobe, owner and operator of Shobe\u2019s Stained Glass, and will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at The Cellar Door, 905 Third Ave.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The Von Gerichten studio closed in 1931 and Shobe acquired the collection in the early 1970s. It contains stained-glass masterpieces that combine the arts of representational drawing, painting with glazes and kiln-firing to fuse a drawing permanently to sheets of colored glass.<\/p>\n<p>One stained-glass work and some of the tools of the trade will be on display at the talk.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/ucomm\/files\/SacrificeOfIsaac-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"SacrificeOfIsaac\" width=\"295\" height=\"215\" \/>A Marshall University professor and one other community member also will serve as guest presenters this summer while Dr. Heather Stark, assistant professor of art history and Huntington Area Art Society lead presenter, is co-teaching 15 Marshall students in Florence, Italy.Huntington Area Art Society presentations are at The Cellar Door. While all are welcome, space is limited. The cost is $10 per presentation or free for Marshall faculty and staff.
