The Marshall University Marching Thunder is excited to offer a unique experience for color guard, majorette, featured twirler, and percussion students in our area. Our Color Guard, Majorette, and Drumline clinics will give students of all ages and ability levels an opportunity to learn from the Marching Thunder’s talented educators in a fun and exciting environment.
We are also excited to team with Appalachian Gold Drum and Bugle Corps to offer additional clinics for brass and leadership. Students will learn technique as well as fun choreography or music to help them grow as performers. These clinics will take place in the morning and afternoon of Saturday, May 5, 2018.
The other aspect of our Tri-State Marching Clinics is the audition portion for eligible students. Students who will be attending Marshall University in the fall will be able to audition for the color guard, majorettes, featured twirlers, and percussion sections that evening. This gives prospective members the opportunity to learn for the entire day and the show off their skills in a low-pressure environment that evening.There will be a $20 registration fee for all participants that can be paid at check-in.

Color Guard- Marshall Recreation Center
Majorettes- Marshall Recreation Center
Brass and Leadership- Smith Music Hall
8:30- Registration Opens
9:00- Clinic Session 1
12:00- Lunch (Pizza provided in the Band Room)
1:30- Clinic Session 2
4:30- Clinic concludes
Students who will be attending Marshall in the fall and are interested in auditioning for color guard, majorettes, or percussion will begin their audition process at 5:30 in their assigned locations. Please note that dinner is not provided for those students auditioning, but there are plenty of places to eat close to Marshall.
Plan to bring 2 batons and please wear black shorts and shirt. Water will be available at the recreation center, but you may want to bring a water bottle and a towel.
If you play snare, tenors, or bass, please bring your own instrument and sticks. Mallet players should bring their own mallets.
Battery percussion may go outside for some or all of the clinic, so please bring hats and sunscreen. You may also want to bring a large water bottle to take with you outside.
While we have some equipment available to use, please plan to bring your own flag and rifle or sabre if you spin those. Water will be available at the recreation center, but you may want to bring a water bottle and a towel.
Parking is available in the Stadium West Parking Lot free of charge for the day.
There is limited space for spectators including families at the clinic locations. We are at the discretion of the facility managers. Please plan to find another location during the clinic time. Spectators will not be allowed during the audition portion of the day.
