This backpacking trip is intended to provide a fun, learning experience while backpacking. Outdoor living skills and techniques will occur organically throughout the trip. Experience the wilderness close to home in this introductory Backpacking Trip to the Wayne National Forest! Pre trip meeting is Tuesday before trip from 5-7pm in the South Meeting Room.
Your trip will includes three days, two nights of backpacking and camping in Wayne National Forest. Open to all skill levels, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the national forest right across the river in the fall. Group gear, lodging, and instruction are all provided. Food and transportation are not provided.
Participants should be physically fit and able to carry a 40-60 pound backpack for an average of 5 miles per day. Backpacks will be filled with both personal gear and shared gear provided by MRC. Participants will be sleeping in their own tents, or tarps, cooking solo, and completing camp tasks while physically distanced. The menu is vegetarian friendly but other needs must be communicated with the leaders. Bathroom facilities (more like facilitrees) are non-existent, but instructors will prioritize hygiene and sanitation, and teach you how to use the bathroom in the woods. Participants will meet at Paddle Creek Horse Camp at a designated time Friday evening.
