The mission of the\u00a0Marshall University Community-Based\u00a0Learning (CBL) Program is to\u00a0combine academic theory\u00a0with\u00a0community engagement\u00a0to\u00a0enhance student learning\u00a0by offering hands-on experience outside of the classroom. The MU-CBL program supports collaborations among faculty, students, and community partners that connect learning objectives to public service and civic engagement.<\/p>\n

The CBL program is committed to four primary goals:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. To encourage civic engagement,\u00a0ethical development, appreciation for diversity, and deeply integrated learning among students at all levels in all disciplines.<\/li>\n
  2. To enhance the quality of teaching,\u00a0assure the integrity of the curriculum, and expand pedagogical resources through faculty development in experiential, community-based learning;<\/li>\n
  3. To establish constructive partnerships\u00a0between the community and higher education in order to alleviate social, economic, and environmental adversity and to enrich the quality of community life both on and off campus;<\/li>\n
  4. To enlarge the scope and application of research\u00a0in higher education and to acknowledge the community’s role in the academic enterprise by facilitating community-based action research projects and supporting the dissemination of research results.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In order to carry out this mission, the CBL program\u00a0offers\u00a0a number of\u00a0services\u00a0and\u00a0resources\u00a0to\u00a0help faculty and students integrate community-based learning projects into\u00a0the\u00a0intellectual life\u00a0of the university.\u00a0Students, faculty and community partners alike are invited to\u00a0consult the menu bar above\u00a0for\u00a0faculty and student information,\u00a0community contacts\u00a0and\u00a0updates about ongoing projects.<\/p>\n
