DIY Upholstery

Turn that outdated chair, ottoman, or antique piece sitting around the house into something elegant by learning the art and craft of upholstery! Bring your furniture piece and learn the basics of tool and shop safety including stripping, spring tie-off, covering, cushions and the use of materials and tools including sewing machines.Taught by the wonderful John Richardson, Marshall’s own in-house upholstery expert, with 43 years experience the class will follow an open workshop format with individualistic instructions as well. With Richardson’s expertise and guidance you will flip your antique into something chic!

Beginning Conversational Italian

Beginning conversational Italian taught by John Patrick Grace, who holds a Ph.D. in Italian/medieval studies from UNC-Chapel Hill and who has six years of residence in Italy, including five as a Rome correspondent for The Associated Press. Dr. Grace has taught Italian for fourteen years at universities in the U.S. and France. Semi-immersion method with strong emphasis on authentic pronunciation and focus on vocabulary needed for tourism or study trips to Italy. Participants should acquire an ability to speak and understand very basic Italian including many typical common expressions of courtesy and everyday life.
