{"id":12558,"date":"2020-05-26T20:44:03","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T01:44:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cecs\/?page_id=12558"},"modified":"2025-04-17T15:22:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T20:22:58","slug":"faculty-research-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cecs\/faculty-research-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty Research &#8211; Parkinson&#8217;s disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"w-full xl:container mx-auto px-6\">Dr. Simon Shim<\/p>\n<div class=\"marsha-row mt-4 mb-4 flex flex-wrap -mx-2 lg:-mx-6  justify-start border-0 border-gray-100 first:mt-0\"><div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-3\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\"><div class=\"\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12407 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cecs\/files\/fr2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p><div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-6\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\"><div class=\"\">\n<p>Dr. Shim working with Dr. Sanghoon Lee in Computer Sciences studies Parkinson\u2019s disease to localize the molecular markers in the micrographs displaying cardinal symptoms of this age-related neurodegenerative disease using an algorithm to be more effective in image analysis and quantification.<\/p>\n<p>The BME students Hannah Painter and Christoph Hart are involved in this project<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-3\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\"><div class=\"\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12563\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cecs\/files\/fr2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Dr. Shim in collaboration with the leaders in the field from East to West Coast is under development of the study involving human and animal models to better understand mechanisms underlying hydrocephalus, the water in the head problem, which is the most frequent neurological condition in children worldwide.
