{"id":14477,"date":"2021-08-06T13:32:37","date_gmt":"2021-08-06T18:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cecs\/?page_id=14477"},"modified":"2025-04-14T15:01:28","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T20:01:28","slug":"amd-in-civil-and-environmental-engineering","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cecs\/amd-in-civil-and-environmental-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"AMD in Civil and Environmental Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"w-full xl:container mx-auto px-6\">\n<h2>Accelerated Master\u2019s Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering <\/h2>\n<p>The Department of Civil Engineering at Marshall University offers an accelerated path for students in the B.S. in Civil Engineering degree program and B.S. in Engineering (Civil Engineering emphasis) degree program to its Master of Science in Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering major.<br \/>\nUndergraduates accepted to an Accelerated Master\u2019s Degree (AMD) program can begin taking graduate coursework while still in the B.S. program. These graduate credits can be taken in their senior year up to a maximum of 12 hours in place of electives. AMD will facilitate an easy and fast transition into the graduate program.<br \/>\nWe encourage qualified undergraduates to consider doing an accelerated master\u2019s degree. Please meet your advisor to see if you qualify for the program, and discuss course planning options.<\/p>\n<h2>Advantages of an Accelerated Degree<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>complete the Bachelor\u2019s degree with up to 12 fewer credit hours, (must meet all other degree requirements for the Bachelor\u2019s degree);<\/li>\n<li>begin work on the master\u2019s degree during the senior year;<\/li>\n<li>complete up to 12 graduate credits at undergraduate tuition rates;<\/li>\n<li>earn a bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degree in less time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Eligibility Requirements for the Accelerated Master\u2019s Degree Program <\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>must have completed at least 90 hours toward the Bachelor\u2019s degree before beginning the AMD;<\/li>\n<li>must have at least a 3.30 overall undergraduate GPA, and at least 3.30 GPA in the major;<\/li>\n<li>must submit AMD Plan of Study form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to Apply<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>During the junior or senior year, eligible students should meet with their Undergraduate Advisor and the Chair\/Director of the chosen Master\u2019s degree program to develop an AMD Plan of Study. This form is available from this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/graduate\/current-students\/forms-and-information-2\/\"> Link<\/a>. The completed, signed, and approved Plan of Study must be submitted to the Graduate College. Any changes to the AMD Plan of Study must be approved by the Undergraduate Advisor and Chair\/Director of Graduate Studies.<\/li>\n<li>The student\u2019s acceptance into the AMD program is subject to the approval of the Plan of Study by the Dean of the Graduate College.<\/li>\n<li>Students accepted into the AMD program should apply for admission to the chosen Master\u2019s degree program for the first semester after the Bachelor\u2019s degree is awarded.
