This is also commonly called your student ID. This number begins with 90 and then seven additional numbers. It is also important to try to email your advisor from only your Marshall email account so we can maintain your privacy.<\/p>\n<h2>What is meant by the term Core Requirements\/Core Curriculum?<\/h2>\n<p>Each student, regardless of major, must complete the Core Curriculum, which is designed to foster critical thinking skills and introduce students to basic domains of thinking that transcend the disciplines. The Core Curriculum consists of the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Core I: 9 hours<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 hours: First Year Seminar (100-level)<\/li>\n<li>6 hours of discipline-specific courses with an emphasis on critical thinking and active learning (100- or 200-level). Specific courses that fulfill the requirement are designated as \u201cCT\u201d in the course title.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Core II: 25 hours (100- or 200-level)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Specific courses that fulfill Core II may be found at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mubert.marshall.edu\/coreIIcourses.php\">https:\/\/mubert.marshall.edu\/coreIIcourses.php<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6 hours: Composition<\/li>\n<li>3 hours: Communication<\/li>\n<li>3 hours: Math<\/li>\n<li>4 hours: Physical or Natural Science<\/li>\n<li>3 hours: Social Science<\/li>\n<li>3 hours: Humanities<\/li>\n<li>3 hours: Fine Arts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional University Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6 hours of Writing Intensive credit in any discipline at any level<\/li>\n<li>3 hours of Multicultural or International coursework in any discipline at any level<\/li>\n<li>Capstone project in the major<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What is a &#8220;hold&#8221; and why do I have one?<\/h2>\n<p>Holds are notes placed on your record that may prevent your registration. Holds must be resolved prior to registering for courses. Make sure you check your holds in your myMU account and talk to your advisor if you have any questions.<\/p>\n<p>Common Holds-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New Student Hold<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 This hold is placed on all new student records and will be removed in August.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Residency Hold<\/strong> \u2013 Please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/housing\/\">housing department<\/a> to resolve this hold.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advisor Hold<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 You are required to meet with your advisor prior to registering for next semester, please schedule an appointment with them to satisfy this hold\u2019s requirements.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Academic Obligation<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 You may be placed on academic probation or suspension. Please contact your advisor with scheduling concerns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How do I view my class schedule?<\/h2>\n<p>You can view your course schedule through myMU by logging in to the myMU portal (<a href=\"https:\/\/mymu.marshall.edu\/\">https:\/\/mymu.marshall.edu\/<\/a>) and viewing the student portal (<em>Menu -&gt; Students<\/em>). From here, expand the\u00a0<em>Course Schedule and Grades<\/em>\u00a0option from the\u00a0<em>Student Self-Service<\/em>\u00a0group and click\u00a0<em>Student Detailed Schedule<\/em>. A sample schedule is shown below, which contains detailed information about your schedule including the delivery mode (face-to-face, online, or virtual) of your courses.<\/p>\n<h2>Who is my advisor, and where can I find them?<\/h2>\n<p>You can find a list of all COHP advisors by clicking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cohp-student-services\/student-advisors\/\">here<\/a>. The staff advisors for COHP are all located on the 2nd floor of Prichard hall. If you have a faculty advisor you will need to contact them directly to find out their office hours and locations. You can also stop by his office in Prichard Hall room 221.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What is FERPA?<\/h2>\n<p>The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act protects your personal information. Under FERPA, the university may not disclose any of your student records without the written consent from the student. Students may choose to give parents or others access to their records by making them a proxy via myMU.
