Dr. D. Scott Davis, previously served as chair of the School of Physical Therapy and leads the college on an interim basis while Marshall conducts a national search for the next permanent dean during the 2026-2027 academic year. In addition to serving as chair of the School of Physical Therapy since 2016, Davis previously served as chair of Marshall\u2019s Graduate Council. His research and scholarly interests include assessment and treatment of non-acute low back pain, chronic pain, sensorimotor training, orthopedic tests and measures, and athletic performance assessment and performance enhancement. He earned a BS in Physical Therapy from West Virginia University in 1988, a MS in Statistics from West Virginia University in 2002 and a EdD in Educational Psychology\/Higher Ed Leadership from West Virginia University in 2006.<\/p>\n

Gary Mcilvain, EdD, LAT\/ATC, serves as the College of Health Professions Associate Dean of Student Affairs, School of Kinesiology Department Chair and Associate Professor at Marshall University. He received his Bachelors of Science from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, Masters of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University and completed his Doctorate in Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky. He started at Marshall in the fall of 1999 and has taught in the CAATE accredited athletic training education program serving as clinical coordinator and program director. Dr. Mcilvain’s research interests are in injury prevention, specifically in regard to athletic injury prevention.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Emeritus Faculty<\/b> – Dr. Michael Prewitt, PhD, Emeritus Faculty in the Marshall University College of Health Professions following a distinguished 16-year tenure as Dean from 2010 to June 30, 2026. During his leadership, he guided one of the University’s largest and fastest-growing colleges, overseeing significant expansion of academic programs in areas including nursing, physical therapy, and public health. Dr. Prewitt championed initiatives to improve regional healthcare access, strengthen student support services, and advance strategic planning efforts that positioned the College for continued growth and impact across West Virginia and the region.<\/p>\n
