Jones, Jr. is Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Studies at Marshall University.<\/strong> He is also the inaugural faculty program director for a new 1.8 million dollar grant-funded program called HerdWork Humanities that will offer 75 students in the humanities paid internships with area nonprofit organizations each year.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jones came to Marshall University in 2023 after 13 years as a faculty member at Eastern Illinois University where he was promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor to Professor, served as the Basic Course Director for 10 years, coordinated the online degree completion program, and supervised the dual credit speech programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Jones was a first-generation college student<\/strong> and is committed to supporting and mentoring students through the challenges that they experience as they navigate the world of higher education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Jones is an award-winning teacher<\/strong> who has won teaching awards as a graduate teaching assistant, tenure-track faculty member, and tenured professor. He was nominated twice to the U.S. Professors of the Year program associated with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Jones is also an award-winning textbook author.<\/strong> In 2019, Dr. Jones&#8217;s book\u00a0<em>Communication in the Real World\u00a0<\/em>(2nd edition) was honored with the Textbook of Distinction Award by the Basic Course Division of the National Communication Association.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.flatworldknowledge.com\/catalog\/editions\/communication-in-the-real-world-3-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Communication in the Real World<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>was published in the 3rd Edition in 2023 by Flat World. Awarded by Eastern Illinois University, Fall 2011<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOutstanding Teaching Assistant Award\u201d in recognition of distinguished contributions to the communication classroom.
