About<\/h2>\n

Dr. Barbara Tarter graduated from Ohio University in six years with her B.S., Masters, and Ph.D. She went from Ohio University to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas where she was an Assistant Professor.\u00a0 She became Director of Admissions and later an Assistant Vice President at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.\u00a0 She went from Emporia to Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, where she was Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean for Enrollment.<\/p>\n

Dr. Tarter is a Christian and involved in a variety of mission activities. She is on the Huntington City Mission Board, on the mission\u2019s committee of Christ Presbyterian Church, and supports Branches, Dress for Success and missionaries in Mexico.\u00a0 She loves teaching and is excited about making a difference in people\u2019s lives. She primarily teaches undergraduate courses in First Year Seminar, Legal Communication, Nonverbal Communication, and Persuasion. She teaches graduate courses in Consulting, Grant Writing, Interpersonal Communication, Nonverbal Communication, and Organizational Communication.<\/p>\n

As an animal lover, she has a variety of \u201ccritters\u201d including two large Rottweilers, a variety of cats, raccoons, deer, opossums, and birds.<\/p>\n

Education<\/h2>\n

Ph.D \u2013 Ohio University in Organization Communication and minor in business<\/p>\n

MA \u2013 Ohio University in Communication Theory, Rhetoric and Public Address<\/p>\n

BS \u2013 Ohio University in General Communication with minors in Psychology, Sociology, and English.<\/p>\n

Joined Marshall University as the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Enrollment<\/p>\n

Joined Marshall Communication Studies Faculty in 2006.<\/p>\n

Scholarly Interests<\/h2>\n

Grant writing, resume writing, nonverbal communication, legal communication, and persuasion.<\/p>\n

Administrative Service<\/h2>\n

Dr. Tarter is a Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission and has been an enrollment consultant for a number of colleges and universities, as well as the US Army.\u00a0 She has also written numerous grants, including three, million dollar grants for Marshall University dealing with the TRIO programs.\u00a0 These include two Talent Search Programs and the Educational Opportunity Services program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
