Pamela Holland,\u00a0<\/span>Ed.D.,<\/span>CCC<\/span>-SLP\/BCS-S, FNAP, is\u00a0<\/span>a Professor<\/span>, Chair and Graduate Program Director for the Department of Communication Disorders at Marshall University. She is board certified in swallowing and swallowing disorders and teaches the graduate course in Early Childhood Language Disorders and Pediatric Dysphagia. She founded the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>MU Interdisciplinary Feeding and Swallowing Clinic<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0in 2013 and specializes in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. In addition to supervising graduate students in the Feeding and Swallowing Clinic she is a part of a multi-agency coalition called\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Healthy Connections<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and works with multiple professions to\u00a0<\/span>assist<\/span>\u00a0in the community\u2019s opioid epidemic\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0improve outcomes for children diagnosed with neonatal abstinence syndrome. She has been a leader in the development and growth of the University\u2019s Interprofessional Education Initiative<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>is one of the faculty advisors for the Interprofessional Health Student Organization (IPHSO).\u00a0<\/span>In 2023, she was recognized as a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Distinguished Fellow by the National Academies of Practice for her work with the\u00a0<\/span>IPE\/IPP Committee\u00a0<\/span>for the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD<\/span>)<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Professor Holland has presented\u00a0<\/span>her research and\u00a0<\/span>expertise<\/span>\u00a0at<\/span>\u00a0WV<\/span>SHA<\/span>, ASHA<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0CAPCSD, KSHA, CNYSHA<\/span>, Talk Tools, and\u00a0<\/span>MedSLP<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>She owns a private practice, Family First Feeding, LLC and provides family centered services for the West Virginia Birth to Three program<\/span>\u00a0and is co-founder of\u00a0<\/span>SuperFeeders<\/span>, LLC\u00a0<\/span><\/span>https:\/\/www.superfeeders.info\/<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Sarah\u00a0Clemins, MS, CCC-SLP<\/span>,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0is an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Communication Disorders at Marshall University. In this role, she oversees the Marshall Speech and Hearing Center and coordinates graduate externship placements.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor\u00a0Clemins\u00a0is a co-founder and clinical coordinator of the Marshall University Multidisciplinary ALS Clinic,\u00a0established\u00a0in 2018. The clinic is West Virginia\u2019s only recognized multidisciplinary ALS treatment center and provides comprehensive, team-based care to individuals and families affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She also serves as the speech-language pathologist for the clinic, specializing in communication, voice, and swallowing management for individuals with this neurodegenerative disease. In addition to ALS, her clinical practice also focuses on the evaluation and treatment of voice disorders, with\u00a0particular expertise\u00a0in vocal cord dysfunction, as well as assessment and implementation of speech-generating devices for adults with complex communication needs.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor\u00a0Clemins\u00a0serves on the board of the Huntington Scottish Rite Foundation and has helped secure more than $200,000 in grant funding to support clinical services and equipment at the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She is also\u00a0a previous\u00a0recipient of the\u00a0Picken\u2019s\u00a0Queen Teaching Award and serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Wellness in the Arts and the West Virginia Speech Language and Hearing Association. More recently, Professor\u00a0Clemins\u00a0has developed a passion for the use of artificial intelligence in speech-language pathology and presents regularly on the topic at local, regional, and national conferences.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Heather Murray serves as an Administrative Coordinator in the Department of Communication Disorders and as the Clinical Office Manager for the Marshall Speech and Hearing Center. She oversees daily clinic operations, supervises graduate assistants, and manages billing and financial processes. Heather is also responsible for provider credentialing. She serves as a primary point of contact for patients and families,\u00a0<\/span>assisting<\/span>\u00a0with scheduling appointments and evaluations and addressing billing-related inquiries.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ernay<\/span>\u00a0Adams, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at Marshall University. A\u00a0<\/span>proud daughter of Marshall, s<\/span>he earned her Master of Science in Communication Disorders from Marshall University in 2011. Prior to returning to Marshall, Professor Adams spent seven years serving adult and geriatric populations in skilled nursing and inpatient rehabilitation settings. She has more than a decade of experience working with graduate students and continues to provide clinical education and supervision at the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center (MUSHC).\u00a0<\/span>Her primary clinical interests include\u00a0<\/span>acquired<\/span>\u00a0neurological and cognitive disorders, as well as dysphagia; however, Professor Adams considers herself a generalist who values the breadth of the speech-language pathology profession and enjoys engaging in many aspects of the field<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0p<\/span>rovid<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0treatment services across the lifespan. Professor Adams is certified in FEES and\u00a0<\/span>VitalStim<\/span>\u00a0therapy and is a registered SPEAK OUT!\u00a0<\/span>provider<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Professor Adams is a recipient of a grant from the Parkinson Voice Project and serves as the lead clinician for the SPEAK OUT! Jennifer Baker,\u00a0<\/span>M.A.,CCC<\/span>-SLP, C-SLDS is an assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders. She received her master\u2019s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Miami University in 2007 and has practiced as a pediatric speech-language pathologist in outpatient settings, preschool settings, and early intervention before joining the Communication Disorders Department at Marshall in 2010<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Jen enjoys teaching undergraduate courses in speech and language development, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutics<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>She also provides clinical education for graduate students in the Marshall Speech and Hearing Center and serves as the chair of the Graduate Admissions Committee<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Her clinical and research interests include child language and literacy, hearing loss, early intervention, and strategies for clinical education.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>In 2023, Jen became certified as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist.<\/span>\u00a0 She is involved in projects aimed at supporting struggling readers and their families, and developing professional education related to the science of reading and dyslexia.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bryn Brown, M.A., CCC\/SLP, COM\u00ae, is a pediatric speech-language pathologist and clinical assistant professor in the\u00a0<\/span>department<\/span>\u00a0of Communication Disorders. She graduated from Marshall University in 2000 with a M.A. Degree in Communication Disorders and joined the faculty at the Speech and Hearing Center in 2019. She is the owner of Simply Feeding,\u00a0<\/span>LLC<\/span>\u00a0where she continues to provide services in early intervention via WV Birth to Three. She is proficient and highly trained with children who have difficulties\/delays in feeding and swallowing, motor speech disorders, orofacial myofunctional deficits, as well as in the identification and pre\/post treatment of tethered oral tissues. She is licensed by the WV Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists,\u00a0<\/span>maintains<\/span>\u00a0her Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, and certificate in orofacial myology through the International Association of Orofacial Myology. Jodi Cottrell,\u00a0<\/span>Au.D<\/span>., CCC-A, LSLS Cert.\u00a0<\/span>AVEd<\/span>,\u00a0 is an Assistant Professor and the program director of The Luke Lee Listening, Language and Learning Lab (The \u201cL\u201d) at Marshall University in the Department of Communication Disorders. She received her Master of Science degree in Audiology at West Virginia University and her Clinical Doctorate of Audiology through Salus University. In July of 2008, Dr. Cottrell became the program director and classroom teacher at The \u201cL\u201d where she provides auditory verbal education services to the students in the preschool program and in the parent infant program, as well as audiological services including hearing aid programming, cochlear implant mapping, and pediatric audiological evaluations through the Marshall Speech and Hearing Center.\u00a0 In\u00a0<\/span>2014<\/span>\u00a0Dr. Cottrell became the first certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist in West Virginia. She currently mentors future listening and spoken language specialists. Most recently, in 2020 she became an assistant professor in the Communication Disorders department teaching audiology and aural rehabilitation. Dr. Cottrell is currently the chair of the board of directors for the Center for Wellness in the Arts, NSSLHA faculty advisor, and the current President of West Virginia AG Bell. Shae Dean, M.A., CCC-SLP, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders. She received her B.A. and M.A. in Communication Disorders from Marshall\u00a0<\/span>University, and<\/span>\u00a0joined the department of Communication Disorders in August 2015. Prior to that, she\u00a0<\/span>acquired<\/span>\u00a015 years of clinical experience in public schools, acute, skilled nursing, long-term care, and home health settings. Professor Dean\u2019s clinical focus includes preschool and school age population,\u00a0<\/span>in particular expressive<\/span>\u00a0and receptive language\u00a0<\/span>disorders<\/span>\u00a0and speech sound disorders<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>She supervises graduate clinicians in the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center and teaches a variety of undergraduate courses<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>In addition, Professor Dean\u00a0<\/span>participates<\/span>\u00a0as a member of a multidisciplinary ASD team that serves to evaluate children with suspected autism spectrum disorders. She also provides supervision at off-campus practicum sites to include school-based services in Cabell County, WV. Professor Dean has lectured in several graduate and undergraduate education courses to provide insight to future educators\u00a0<\/span>regarding<\/span>\u00a0speech\/language services in the public-school system, and on Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and implementation. Dr. Patricia Arias Hunt\u202fis an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at Marshall University. She earned both her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Ph.D. in Applied Language and Speech Sciences from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her research focuses on community-based approaches to language and literacy education, with an emphasis on pedagogy, qualitative inquiry, and\u00a0<\/span>strengths<\/span>-based frameworks that recognize and build upon the knowledge and capacities of local communities. Clinically, Dr. Arias Hunt specializes in child language, social communication in group settings, and bilingual language intervention. Her work has been featured at national and international conferences (e.g., ASHA, LSHA, CORK) and in academic publications, including a co-authored book\u00a0<\/span>chapter on<\/span>\u00a0literacy and communication disorders. Jamie Maxwell, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an ass<\/span>ociate\u00a0<\/span>professor in the Department of Communication Disorders. She received both her M.S. degree in Speech-Language Pathology and her Ph.D. in Applied Language and Speech Sciences at\u00a0<\/span>University<\/span>\u00a0of Louisiana at Lafayette. Before joining the department, she worked as a clinician for several years, providing assessment and treatment services for children and their families in early intervention and private in-home and pediatric settings. At Marshall, Dr. Maxwell teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on the topics of counseling, language disorders, research in communication disorders, and stuttering, as well as providing clinical supervision to graduate clinicians. Her research interests include language and literacy, intervention for children exposed to substance use disorders, generative relational practices, learning theory, and qualitative research methodologies.\u00a0<\/span>Dr<\/span>. Maxwell is a founding co-leader of both the local Adult and Family chapters of the National Stuttering Association in Huntington.\u00a0<\/span>Additionally, she is part of the Healthy Connections Developmental Clinic, a multidisciplinary screening clinic developed to partner with families to\u00a0\u00a0 improve outcomes for children with a history of opioid exposure.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Phillip Mahoney, PhD, MA CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders. He received his PhD in English at Temple University, in 2014, and began teaching, while publishing and presenting research within a broad, interdisciplinary context. His scholarly work in literary theory led to a growing interest in voice and language and, eventually, to a\u00a0<\/span>Master\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0degree in Communication Sciences<\/span>\u00a0and Disorders. During his graduate studies in Communication Disorders, he conducted a research study on the application of principles of motor learning in the treatment of Apraxia of Speech, work that he would later present at the annual Ohio Speech Language Hearing Association conference. Phil has provided speech, language, cognition, and swallowing services in a variety of medical settings, including acute care, skilled nursing, and home health. At Marshall University, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, and supervises graduate student clinicians, with a focus on\u00a0<\/span>acquired<\/span>\u00a0neurogenic communication disorders. In his free time, Phil enjoys reading, practicing French, and getting outdoors with his family.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kelly Rutherford, Ed.D., CCC-SLP, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders. She received her M.S. in Communication Disorders and her Ed.D. in Leadership Studies at Marshall University. Dr. Rutherford is licensed by the WV Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists and\u00a0<\/span>maintains<\/span>\u00a0her Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. Dr. Rutherford teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Neurogenic Communication Disorders, Aphasia, Dysphagia, and Neurology. Specific areas of interest include patient and family-centered care, inclusivity, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. She provides services in the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center serving as lead faculty for the center\u2019s Aphasia Group,\u00a0<\/span>conducting<\/span>\u00a0and supervising evaluations, and providing and supervising treatment for individuals living with aphasia. Dr. Rutherford has presented her academic work at state and national conferences including Celebrating Connections Conference, WVSHA, KSHA, ASHA, and NSSA. Heidi Sanders, M.S., CCC-SLP is a clinical faculty\u00a0<\/span>member<\/span>\u00a0the Communication Disorders Department at Marshall University<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Mrs. Sanders obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communication Disorders from Marshall University and holds the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0She is licensed to serve clients in the states of WV and OH by each state\u2019s Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Before returning to Marshall, Mrs. Sanders provided therapy services to clients across the lifespan with developmental disabilities in an outpatient setting<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>She specializes\u00a0<\/span>in is<\/span>\u00a0providing assessment and therapeutic services to clients diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) and\u00a0<\/span>Autism Spectrum Disorder<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>She also enjoys supporting\u00a0<\/span>the clients<\/span>\u00a0who communicate via augmentative and alternative communication. Mona Sanders, M.S. CCC-SLP is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders. Professor Sanders received her M.S. in Communication Disorders in 2013<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>She has practiced as a speech-language pathologist for 10 years, with a variety of experience in both pediatrics and adults within the outpatient, school, and skilled nursing setting.\u00a0<\/span>Professor Sanders\u2019 clinical interests include special populations, childhood apraxia of speech, and childhood language disorders.<\/span>\u00a0She is a PROMPT level one trained therapist and has obtained certification from the Hanen Center for parent education with language delays. Kelly Young, M.A., CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor in the Marshall University Department of Communication Disorders. Professor Young received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees in the field of Communication Disorders from Marshall\u00a0<\/span>University<\/span>\u00a0and she is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Leadership Studies at Marshall University. She is licensed by the WV Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists and\u00a0<\/span>maintains<\/span>\u00a0her Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. Her over 20 years of experience includes working in a clinical outpatient setting and public school system. She has extensive experience diagnosing and treating developmental speech and language disorders and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Young is a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>LAMP (Language Acquisition Through Motor Planning)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a>Certified Professional, who specializes in providing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies to support children with developmental language disorders. She currently provides both undergraduate and graduate-level classroom instruction, as well as on and off-campus supervision to graduate clinicians. Nikki Dudley, MS, CCC-SLP, CBIS, is an adjunct clinical supervisor in the Communication Disorders Department at Marshall University. Nikki received her M.S. in Communication Disorders from Marshall in 2011, and prior to joining the department she worked as a speech- language pathologist in traumatic brain injury community reentry programs, skilled nursing, and public school settings in WV, KY, NC, and SC. Currently, she supervises graduate clinicians on-campus and off-site in treating cognitive communication and social language deficits. She leads several pragmatic groups for children and young adults at the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center and believes group therapy offers an important peer support system for some of the challenges faced by those on the Autism spectrum. Nikki became a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) in May\u00a0<\/span>2023<\/span>. She has also\u00a0<\/span>written<\/span>\u00a0articles for the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Perspectives<\/span><\/span>\u00a0titled, \u201cCommunity of Research Practice: A Model for Student Research\u201d and the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>ASHA Leader<\/span><\/span>\u00a0called, \u201cGot (Treatment) Game?\u201d In her spare time, Nikki plays board games with her son and husband, helps run a newsletter for survivors of brain injury, and loves going to the movie theater.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa Fry, Ph.D. is an adjunct professor in the Department of Communication Disorders. Dr. Fry received her\u00a0<\/span>master\u2019s degree in Communication<\/span>\u00a0Disorders at Marshall in 1992 and her doctorate in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kentucky in 2008. Her doctoral work focused on the study of\u00a0<\/span>the voice<\/span>\u00a0and its disorders. Her research has focused on laryngeal muscle biology, vocal aging, and the effects of various voice therapies on voice production. The results of her work have been published in several peer-reviewed journals in the field and presented at national and international venues for voice specialists. In 2009, she co-authored the text\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Voice Therapy: Clinical Case Studies, 3rd ed.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0with her doctoral mentor, Joseph\u00a0<\/span>Stemple.Dr<\/span>. Fry taught full-time at Marshall from 2002 to 2010, teaching courses in Voice and Research Design and\u00a0<\/span>facilitating<\/span>\u00a0a weekly forum for undergraduate and graduate student researchers. Since leaving full-time teaching in 2010, Dr. Fry has continued to\u00a0<\/span>assist<\/span>\u00a0graduate and undergraduate researchers by serving on thesis committees and by\u00a0<\/span>assisting<\/span>\u00a0students in research design, analysis, and presentation. Erin Petty,\u00a0<\/span>M.S.,CCC<\/span>-SLP, is an assistant professor for the Department of Communication Disorders at Marshall University. Professor Petty received her M.S. in Communication Disorders at Marshall University in 2017. Prior to returning to Marshall, she worked as a speech-language pathologist in a variety of settings, with a special interest in home health and acute care settings. Her clinical interests include dysphagia, motor speech disorders,\u00a0<\/span>acquired<\/span>\u00a0neurocognitive disorders, and voice and resonance disorders. She has obtained\u00a0<\/span>additional<\/span>\u00a0training and certifications including Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES),\u00a0<\/span>Ampcare<\/span>\u00a0NMES Dysphagia Protocol<\/span>, SPEAK<\/span>\u00a0OUT! Kaitlyn Williamson, M.S., CCC-SLP, is an adjunct clinical supervisor in the Communication Disorders Department at Marshall University. She earned her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Marshall University in 2021. Kaitlyn has experience working with patients across the lifespan in acute care, outpatient rehabilitation, and community re-entry programs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She currently supervises graduate clinicians in on-campus and off-site clinical placements, supporting assessment and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication disorders, and dysphagia. Loukia<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Zikkos<\/span>\u00a0Dixon, M.A., CCC-S, is an associate professor in the Marshall University Department of Communication Disorders. She joined the department in August of 2003 and has a diverse clinical background serving clients in evaluation and treatment and ranging in ages from infancy to geriatrics, in settings such as outpatient clinic, acute care\/rehabilitation, long term care facilities, head start, elementary, middle, and high school, and home health. Teaching experiences include courses in phonetics and communication sciences, diagnostic\u00a0<\/span>procedures<\/span>\u00a0and phonological disorders. She also provides clinical education to graduate students in the Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center, with clinical interests in diagnostic evaluations as well as speech sound disorders (articulation and phonological disorders and childhood apraxia of speech), velopharyngeal insufficiency, and dialectical differences.
