The project was a collaboration with faculty from West Virginia University, Washington and Jefferson College, Amherst College, and Florida State University. The paper also included undergraduate students as co-authors, including Kerrigan Parks, Sarah Nickel, and Deben Shoup—all former students from Dr. Quiñones’ lab. In this project, they synthesized a novel complex of the anti-cancer drug erlotinib (ERL) via heterogeneous nucleation on polished zinc tiles. The resulting product was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, multinuclear solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Dr. Rosalynn Quiñones from the Department of Chemistry has published a recent study in the Journal of Crystal Growth & Design.
