{"id":4452,"date":"2025-05-27T16:30:49","date_gmt":"2025-05-27T21:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cos\/?p=4452"},"modified":"2025-05-28T11:44:43","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T16:44:43","slug":"biology-grad-students-win-research-awards-for-global-and-coastal-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cos\/2025\/05\/27\/biology-grad-students-win-research-awards-for-global-and-coastal-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Biology grad students win research awards for global and coastal projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Big congratulations to Biology graduate students Mary Zarilla and Zak Bartholomew, who were each awarded a Fall 2025 Graduate Creative Discovery and Research Award\u2014worth $2,500!<\/p>\n<p>Mary, who works in both the Dingess and Axel labs, received funding for her project: &#8220;Assessing Mammalian Biodiversity in the Albertine Rift, Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve, Uganda.&#8221; Her research explores wildlife conservation in one of the most biodiverse regions in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Zak, from the Palmquist lab, earned his award for the project: &#8220;Effects of Sea-Level Rise and Storm Intensification on Salt Marsh Resilience and Migration,&#8221; focusing on the future of coastal ecosystems in the face of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re proud of these students and their meaningful research tackling global environmental challenges.
