{"id":4846,"date":"2025-11-07T12:30:23","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T17:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cos\/?p=4846"},"modified":"2025-11-07T13:33:47","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T18:33:47","slug":"college-of-science-students-earn-top-honors-at-research-day-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/cos\/2025\/11\/07\/college-of-science-students-earn-top-honors-at-research-day-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"College of Science students earn top honors at Research Day 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The College of Science is proud to celebrate several outstanding students who excelled at the 37th Annual Marshall University Health Sciences Research Day, held Nov. 3 at the Marshall Health Network \u2013 St. Mary\u2019s Center for Education Conference Center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. John Karickhoff Medical Innovation Award for Best Overall Presentation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Isha Gupta, a second-year medical student and Biology Department graduate, earned top honors for her abstract, \u201cAKT Serine\/Threonine Kinase 1 (AKT1) Regulation of N-Myc Downstream Regulated 1 (NDRG1) in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma Cells.\u201d The prestigious award also includes a financial prize.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Undergraduate Winners<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Best Oral Presentation \u2013 Undergraduate Student: Lucas Stanley, Biological Science major (Mentor: Dr. Mary-Louise Risher)<\/li>\n<li>Best Poster Presentation \u2013 Undergraduate Student: Mika McCormick, Biological Science and Biochemistry dual major (Mentor: Dr. Gary Rankin)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our undergraduate winners are also future Marshall doctors!
