{"id":9737,"date":"2024-01-17T14:32:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T19:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/coepd\/?page_id=9737"},"modified":"2026-05-14T15:42:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T15:42:21","slug":"licensure-certification","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/counseling-department\/licensure-certification\/","title":{"rendered":"Licensure &amp; Certification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"\">Our curriculum is built to prepare students to complete the requirements for <a href=\"https:\/\/wvbec.org\">licensure<\/a> as\u00a0a professional counselor (e.g., LPC) and <a href=\"https:\/\/wvde.us\/student-support-wellness\/mental-behavioral-physical-health\/school-counselors\">certification<\/a>\u00a0as a school counselor in WV\u00a0as well as national certification as a National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and National Certified School Counselor through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nbcc.org\/certification\/ncsc#ncsc\">National Board for Certified Counselors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"\">Students that complete the school counseling specialty area of emphasis are also eligible to complete the requirements for licensure as an LPC in WV.<\/p>\n<p style=\"\">Some state licensure boards offer streamlined processes for graduates of CACREP-accredited programs\u00a0like Marshall\u2019s Counseling Department offers. Many states also offer endorsement or reciprocity options for people already licensed in other states for a designated period. Additionally, once the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/counselingcompact.gov\/\">CounselingCompact<\/a>\u00a0is fully operational, it will be easier for people licensed in one state to gain practice privileges in another.<\/p>\n<p style=\"\">We will work our best to provide flexibility and elective offerings to meet the needs of your professional goals; however, Marshall University cannot guarantee licensure or certification.<\/p>\n<p style=\"\">Students are responsible for consulting with their state licensure governing bodies to evaluate their educational requirements.
