The Case Method<\/a><\/p>\n

From the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, this page introduces the theoretical foundations and benefits of the method along with steps to get started: “Cases are narratives, situations, select data samplings, or statements that present unresolved and provocative issues, situations, or questions (Indiana University Teaching Handbook, 2005). The case method is a participatory, discussion-based way of learning where students gain skills in critical thinking, communication, and group dynamics. It is a type of problem-based learning<\/a>. Often seen in the professional schools of medicine, law, and business, the case method is now used successfully in disciplines such as engineering, chemistry, education, and journalism.
