United Way: Volunteering in the Tri-State

Want to Volunteer in the Tri-State?

Many students in our programs are deeply committed to making a difference in the world.  They have made a commitment to the greater good.  That’s why they study within the fields of sociology and anthropology.  There are formal opportunities to get engaged such as through internships and Service Learning courses in the Department.  There are also many short and longer term informal commitments that you can make to contribute to communities in the Tri-State.  Many of these opportunities can provide you with useful experience as well as perspective on issues that are often addressed in your course work.

Fortunately, as part of the efforts of United Way of the River Cities, Create Huntington, and others, there’s an easy way to connect yourself (as a student or other member of the Department) with real needs in the community.  If you chose to become a volunteer, understand that this is a personal choice.  While it can be helpful to you in a variety of ways that can contribute to your experience at Marshall and help you as you pursue your career aspirations, this is not a part of your plan of studies for your major in the Department.

About United We Volunteer

United We Volunteer is the way you can connect to the world of volunteerism in your community.  United We Volunteer is a web-based resource that connects agencies in the region that have volunteer opportunities with individuals and groups who want to share their time and talents.

Whether you are an agency advertising your volunteers needs, or an individual looking for a place to donate your time, you’ve come to the right place! Browse the site, and if interested, log in and set up a profile if you want to be a volunteer.

The video below describes the program that facilitates the effort to organize volunteers and the agencies/entities that need help.
