New Drinko Fellowship Awarded May 3, 2025<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

History Professor Dr. Christopher M. White<\/a> is the 30th Distinguished Drinko Fellow<\/strong>. Dr. White teaches Latin American history, U.S. history, world history, food history, conspiracies in U.S. history, and courses on the war on drugs and the global south. He earned his Ph.D. in history in 2005 and his M.A. in Latin American studies in 2002 both from the University of Kansas, and he earned a B.A. in Spanish education from Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., in 2001. He also served in the United States Marine Corps<\/em> from 1994 to 1998.<\/p>\n

Dr. White has received the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism\u2019s Outstanding Community Contributor Award, the Marshall University Distinguished Artists and Scholars Award, and a Marshall International Innovation Grant. He served as director of the Latin American studies minor at Marshall University from 2006 to 2011 and has led the History Department\u2019s “Food Past\/Food Present” series since its inception in 2019.<\/p>\n

Dr. White has authored four books, including Creating a Third World: Mexico, Cuba, and the United States during the Castro Era<\/em>, The History of El Salvador<\/em>, A Global History of the Developing World<\/em>, and The War on Drugs in the Americas<\/em>. He is also co-editor of Appalachian Epidemics: From Smallpox to COVID-19<\/em>.\u00a0He will present the results of his fellowship work at the university\u2019s 2027 Drinko Symposium.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>See the full news release here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Masters at Marshall Distinguished Speaker Series welcomed Jos\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s to campus on October 29th.\u00a0 Andr\u00e9s is a Presidential Medal of Freedom winner, renowned chef, and entrepreneur, who founded World Central Kitchen, which has provided meals to many millions of people facing war, climate, and other humanitarian crises.\u00a0 Ticket sales supported the Marshall University Food Pantry and the Huntington Homeless Services Hub.\u00a0 Andr\u00e9s is pictured here with Marshall Professor of History Emeritus Dr. Dan Holbrook and Drinko Academy Executive Director Dr. Montserrat Miller, who presented Andr\u00e9s with a copy of her award-winning book, Feeding Barcelona, 1714-1975: Public Food Markets, Social Networks, and Consumer Culture<\/i><\/a> (Louisiana State University Press, 2015).<\/p>\n
