{"id":3,"date":"2014-08-20T14:17:07","date_gmt":"2014-08-20T19:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/?page_id=3"},"modified":"2025-12-02T12:07:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T17:07:19","slug":"fys-final-exam","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/first-year-seminar\/faculty\/fys-final-exam\/","title":{"rendered":"FYS Common Exam Info for Instructors"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>FYS Exam info<\/h2>\n<h3>Where is the exam?<\/h3>\n<p>The FYS Common Exam is set up in the same way as it was in fall and spring 2019 (for those of you who taught then).\u00a0 For those of you who didn&#8217;t teach last year or others who just need a little refresher &#8211; rather than the exam being set up as a TEST in Blackboard, it is set as an ASSIGNMENT (even though we still consider and call it a test, which is given at the end of the semester).<\/p>\n<p>So, this just means that students will open and complete the exam, which still contains Parts A (evaluating seven documents for credibility and relevance),\u00a0B (considering what other information would have been useful and how one might find it)\u00a0 and C (the recommendation with justification), using a Microsoft Word document, which they should save often and one last time before attaching and submitting\u00a0it to the FYS Common Exam Assignment\u00a0in Blackboard.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the what is slightly different &#8211;\u00a0rather than loading that Microsoft Word document (actually, there are four different ones for four different scenarios &#8211;\u00a0those given on Monday,\u00a0another scenario for Tuesday, etc.)\u00a0into your Blackboard course shell at the beginning of the semester,\u00a0students will be directed via a link in the Blackboard assignment to a website with all the information they need,\u00a0including the FYS Common Exam\u00a0Microsoft Word document template.<\/p>\n<p>So, it&#8217;s the same test, same format.\u00a0 The only difference is that ACCESS to the exam, exam scenarios and related documents will be available via a website (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/first-year-seminar\/final-exams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/first-year-seminar\/final-exams\/)<\/a>\u00a0which is linked in the FYS Common Exam assignment in Blackboard for students.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions, please contact April Fugett (fugett5@marshall.edu or 304-696-5268)<\/p>\n<h2>Who is on call if I need assistance?<\/h2>\n<p>April Fugett (fugett5@marshall.edu | 304-696-5268<\/p>\n<h2>Previous Semesters &#8211; what we did<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Made some revisions to exam instructions to make them more straightforward.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/files\/READ-FIRST-REVISED.docx\">READ FIRST REVISED<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/files\/Revision-of-Parts-B-and-C.docx\">Revision of Parts B and C<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Updated four existing exam scenarios to make them more relevant (in some cases replaced dated articles and documents with more timely ones and in others rewrote the scenario to reflect the times in which we live)<\/li>\n<li>Created six new final exam scenarios, which will go into the rotation of exams. \u00a0Two of the six new ones will debut this fall, two next spring, etc.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Retired&#8221; one FYS exam scenario so that faculty could use as a teaching tool, if they wish, in class much as they do with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/first-year-seminar\/faculty\/fys-final-exam\/banned-books-scenario-2\/\">Banned Books Scenario<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/first-year-seminar\/faculty\/fys-final-exam\/apple\/\">Apple <\/a>scenarios. \u00a0The retired exam that is now available for use is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/fys\/first-year-seminar\/faculty\/fys-final-exam\/governors-budget-scenario\/\">The Governor&#8217;s Budget Analysis<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>The FYS Final Exam transitioned\u00a0from the paper format to MUOnline in fall 2014.<\/h2>\n<h3>Learn more about the process<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PRESENTATION<\/strong>: iPed Conference Presentation Tuesday, August 19, 2014 &#8211;
