Getting the most out of group work in FYS<\/h2>\n

Here is the information I use for the group assignment.\u00a0 I have the students complete Reflection 1 before I discuss \u201cThe Dreaded Team Assignment\u201d.\u00a0 After discussing it, they complete Reflection 2.\u00a0 Then we discuss the group project of \u201cTeach the Class\u201d, and I assign them to groups based on their results of VARK and Myers Briggs (each type of learner in each group, and introverts grouped together and extroverts grouped together).\u00a0 After completing the assignment, they complete the Group Project Assessment.\u00a0 We just completed this assignment, so I asked the students to write positive\/negative comments.\u00a0 The positive included getting to know classmates better, meeting classmates, enjoyed working together as a group, enjoyed the hands-on activities presented in each group, enjoyed learning about the different Learning Outcomes.\u00a0 Negative comments included presentation was required to be too long, one group had an issue with a classmate, but was able to work it out on their own, the majority did not have a negative comment.<\/span><\/p>\n
