{"id":133,"date":"2023-04-17T19:24:09","date_gmt":"2023-04-17T19:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/generalcounsel\/?page_id=133"},"modified":"2024-02-01T16:10:32","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T16:10:32","slug":"title-ix","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/generalcounsel\/title-ix\/","title":{"rendered":"Title IX"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Title <abbr title=\"9\">IX<\/abbr> of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cNo person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The program is administered by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\">U.S. Department of Education<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/about\/offices\/list\/ocr\/index.html\">Office for Civil Rights<\/a> (OCR). Many people think of Title <abbr title=\"9\">IX<\/abbr> as a program that was created to ensure equity in sports programs for men and women.
