We should ask our State Climatologist (Dr. Kevin Law) where are the cool temperatures?<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of exciting opportunities this week for our current students and recent graduates.<\/p>\n<p>On the academic front:<br \/>\nThe Applied Geography Student Research Fellowship Competition (open to graduate students and undergraduate students) is due December 15, 2017 (a second competition will occur in mid-2018). The AAG Applied Geography Specialty Group will award undergraduate fellowships (up to $350), Master&#8217;s fellowships (up to $500) and Doctoral fellowships (up to $1000) to support any applied geography topic being researched by a student in conjunction with a faculty mentor. The Applied Geography Student Research Fellowship support may be used for any reasonable expenses associated with developing and\/or disseminating the research. Eligibility is limited to current student members of the Applied Geography Specialty Group who are enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at time of award. Please note that separate competitions will be held for Ph.D., M.A.\/M.S, and undergraduate students, and two competitions will be held this academic year: December 2017 and spring 2018. The application packet includes: 1) a 3 page proposal with name, affiliation, and a discussion of the research question(s), proposed method(s), and expected results\/significance. Applicants must also include a letter of support from the faculty mentor (the letter of support can be emailed by the applicant or the faculty mentor).<\/p>\n<p>Eligibility Requirements<br \/>\n\u2022 Must be a dues-paying member of the AAG Applied Geography Specialty Group<br \/>\n\u2022 Must be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at time of award<br \/>\n\u2022 Topic must be clearly defined as a contribution to applied geography<\/p>\n<p>Applicants should send their completed application materials to Dr. Timothy L. Hawthorne at timothy.hawthorne@ucf.edu by 5 pm (EST) on December 15, 2017. Winners will be contacted in late January 2018.<\/p>\n<p>On the networking front:<br \/>\nThe 2018 Esri Federal GIS (FedGIS) Conference is taking place in Washington, D.C. March 20-21.
