Constitution Week<\/h2>\n

Each September<\/a>, the Marshall community commemorates the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and the contributions to our nation’s legal system by university\u00a0namesake John Marshall, fourth chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.\u00a0Constitution Week is sponsored by the\u00a0John Deaver Drinko Academy<\/a> and\u00a0includes an essay competition, quoits tournament, lecture forum and celebration of John Marshall’s birthday.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Quoits<\/h2>\n

A game similar to horseshoes, quoits\u00a0was one of John Marshall\u2019s favorite pastimes.\u00a0Quoits are rings of iron that, like horseshoes, are pitched at stakes. President’s Freshman Convocation<\/h2>\n

This annual event, held just before classes begin each fall, formally celebrates the incoming class\u2019s official start at Marshall University. After the class picture is taken in front of the John Marshall statue, freshmen walk with the president in a group to the Keith Albee Performing Arts Center via Fourth Ave. The convocation\u00a0program celebrates the diverse backgrounds of the Marshall family and stories of how the university\u00a0has changed the lives of its alumni.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Annual Fountain Ceremony<\/h2>\n

The Student Government Association holds a memorial service<\/a> each year on the anniversary of the Nov. 14, 1970, plane crash that took the lives of\u00a075 people, including the Marshall University football team, coaches, staff, community members and crew.\u00a0The ceremony is held\u00a0in front of the Memorial Fountain on the Memorial Student Center plaza.\u00a0As is traditional, the water in the fountain is stopped during the service, to remain silent until spring.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Alpha Xi Delta Strawberry Breakfast<\/h2>\n

Each April since 1951, the sisters\u00a0of Alpha Xi Delta sorority have\u00a0hosted their annual Strawberry Breakfast. Every year\u00a0chapter members serve more than 1,000 meals, including\u00a0pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits, chocolate-covered strawberries and strawberry butter.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

International Festival<\/h2>\n

The university’s annual international festival<\/a> has been held for more than 50 years and features international foods, world music and dance, and displays representing many different countries and cultures. “Sons of Marshall” Fight Song<\/h2>\n

When the 300-member strong Marching Thunder enters the Joan C. Edwards Stadium playing the school’s official fight song<\/a>, the hearts of sons and daughters of Marshall University swell with pride. The march was written in 1935 by alumnus Ralph A. Williams.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Marshall Artists Series<\/h2>\n

The Marshall Artists Series<\/a> is one of the\u00a0nation\u2019s leading college-town arts and entertainment series and the second-oldest, dating to 1936.\u00a0Housed in\u00a0the historic Keith Albee Performing Arts Center in downtown Huntington, the series offers a full schedule of performances\u00a0and films.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Thunder Walk<\/h2>\n

The football team’s\u00a0pre-game walk through the tailgaters at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium\u00a0has become a ritual. Fans line both sides of the route to cheer the players and coaches as they make their way to the stadium for each home game.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

“We Are…Marshall” Chant<\/h2>\n
