{"id":136,"date":"2010-11-24T06:49:16","date_gmt":"2010-11-24T11:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/?page_id=136"},"modified":"2024-06-07T09:04:14","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T14:04:14","slug":"latin-american-studies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/history\/certificate-programs\/latin-american-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"Latin American Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"w-full xl:container mx-auto px-6\">A certificate program in Latin American Studies is a convenient way for individuals to add a consistent study of Latin American topics to their undergraduate credentials.\u00a0 The\u00a0 Studies program provides students with courses from various colleges and disciplines across the university.\u00a0 The program allows students to advance their study of Latin American history: culture: language: and society and will serve as a preparation for a variety of careers and graduate school options.<\/p>\n<p>The certificate can meet the needs of these students:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students anticipating graduate work in a professional program (Law: Business: Medicine: Social Work: etc.) in which they intend to have an\u00a0 focus.<\/li>\n<li>Students anticipating graduate work in an academic field (History: Geography: Literature: Religious Studies: etc.) in which they intend to have an\u00a0 focus.<\/li>\n<li>Students anticipating graduate work in\u00a0 Studies<\/li>\n<li>Students anticipating employment in a field that requires (or would benefit from) a background knowledge of\u00a0 culture and society.<\/li>\n<li>Students who want to pursue a knowledge of\u00a0 society and culture for their own interests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr. Christopher White<br \/>\nDepartment of History<br \/>\nHarris Hall\u00a0112<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:whitec@marshall.edu\">whitec@marshall.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Program Requirements<\/p>\n<p>Student must complete 15 hours of Latin American Studies course work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Core Courses: At least 9 of the 15 hours must come from the list of core courses.<\/li>\n<li>Optional Courses: Up to 6 hours can be selected from the list of optional courses.<\/li>\n<li>Courses may be taken in any order and in any discipline as long as the above requirements are met.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table id=\"table2\" width=\"76%\" border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"3\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\" bgcolor=\"#efefef\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;
