The History Department has a long tradition of supporting interdisciplinary minors, serving as program directors, offering courses within the minor, or both.\u00a0 These minors are open to everyone, and history students are encouraged to consider adding one.<\/p>\n

Latin American Studies<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A student may earn a minor in Latin American Studies by completing at least 15 credit hours from the courses li\"\"<\/a>sted below and\/or any 300- and 400-level Special Topics or Independent Study courses that focus on Latin America and that have been approved by the Director of Latin American Studies.\u00a0\u00a0 As an interdisciplinary program, students are not confined to taking courses in one department; however, all 15 credit hours can be from a single department.\u00a0 Up to 6 credit hours can be transferred from another accredited institution with the approval of the Director of Latin American Studies.\u00a0 The director may allow up to 12 credit hours to apply if earned at a Latin American university during study abroad. No more than 3 credit hours taken on a credit\/no credit basis may count toward the minor. A student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the courses counting toward the minor.<\/p>\n

African and African American Studies (AAAS)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A student may earn a minor in African and African American Studies by completing at least 12 credit hours from the courses listed below and\/or any Special Topics or Independent Study courses that have been approved by the Director of AAAS.\u00a0 Because this is an interdisciplinary minor, students must take courses from at least two academic departments.\u00a0 No more than 3 credit hours from courses taken on a credit\/no credit basis can count toward the minor.\u00a0 Up to 6 credit hours can be transferred from another accredited institution; such courses must be approved by the Director of AAAS.\u00a0\u00a0 A student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the courses counting toward the minor.<\/p>\n
