{"id":13880,"date":"2020-04-27T13:18:34","date_gmt":"2020-04-27T18:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/it\/?page_id=13880"},"modified":"2025-12-22T17:19:59","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T22:19:59","slug":"grads","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/it\/departments\/it-service-desk\/grads\/","title":{"rendered":"Services Available to Graduates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Congratulations Graduate!\u00a0<\/strong> As you graduate from Marshall University, now is a good time to take a few moments to wrap up some important technology and service items before you go.<\/p>\n<p>As a Marshall University alum, you may continue using your MUNet account and e-mail services for <strong>2 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to your MUNet account and email, here\u2019s information about how your MarshallU account and access to Marshall services will change during this exciting transition. (If you\u2019re continuing at Marshall in another role, like staff or a graduate program, your experience may vary, please contact the IT Service Desk if you have questions.)<\/p>\n<p>Remember that the use of university technology resources requires adherence to the University IT policies and procedures. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/board\/board-of-governors-policies\/#IT\">www.marshall.edu\/board\/board-of-governors-policies\/#IT <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Violation of policies will result in the termination of your account.\u00a0 Marshall University reserves the right to modify or terminate your service for any reason, without notice.<\/p>\n<h2>Technical Support<\/h2>\n<p><strong>MU IT Service Desk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IT Service Desk provides support for Marshall University students, faculty and staff. Technical support for alumni is limited to MUNet account administration.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Email<\/strong> will continue to be available as long as you <strong>keep the account active<\/strong>.\u00a0 Activity is updated each time you logon with your MUNet account to the myMU web portal or directly to your @marshall.edu mailbox on <a href=\"https:\/\/outlook.office.com\/mail\/\">Microsoft Office<\/a>\u00a0<strong>at least once every 6 month period<\/strong>.\u00a0 Checking your Marshall email on your phone does not always update your account status, so manually logging in from a computer web browser is recommended.\u00a0 Remember, if you set up any online accounts with your @marshall.edu address you may wish to update these accounts with a personal address of your choice.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MU WiFi<\/strong> is available to you when visiting campus when authenticating with your active MUNet account (see e-mail information above).<\/li>\n<li><strong>myMU<\/strong> web portal will still be available to you for access to your student information, transcript requests, and MyPay for student employee W-2 forms as long as your MUNet account remains active.<\/li>\n<li><strong>M<\/strong><strong>UAlert<\/strong> \u2013 graduates are responsible to update or unsubscribe their campus emergency notification contact information when they are no longer present on campus.\u00a0 Log in to myMU, click on the MUAlert quick-link to change your options or opt out from future messages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Campus ID Services <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Door access <\/strong>\u2013 is based on current term enrollment (summer based on fall); or special request<\/li>\n<li><strong>Herd Points<\/strong> don&#8217;t expire, however they must be used at least once a year.\u00a0 There is an inactivity fee after 1 year.\u00a0 If your balance is $5.00 or more you can have it refunded to you by check by contacting the <a href=\"mailto:campusid@marshall.edu\">MUID Office<\/a> for a refund request.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Software<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Microsoft Office 365 Software<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f\u2013 this software is licensed to current students and employees. Once you graduate, you\u2019ll be moved from a Microsoft A5 license to an A1 license.*\u00a0 An A1 license allows you to use the M365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) but these apps are only available via the web instead of the desktop apps that you are used to.\u00a0 This A1 license will be available to you for a period of 24 months after graduation. \u00a0That gives you 24 months (2 years) after graduation to establish your own personal subscription and migrate your OneDrive data before it goes away with MU.\u00a0 If you wish to continue using the full desktop apps\/software, you will want to purchase your own license. You can log out of your Marshall account and log in with your new username and password to continue using without having to reinstall.<\/span><br \/>\n<h5><span data-contrast=\"none\">*<em>A1 &#8211; Free Office 365 for the web with popular apps like Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote so teachers and students can work together, communicate seamlessly, and create amazing content.<\/em><\/span><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/h5>\n<h5><em>A5 &#8211; All the features in A1 in addition to full access to the Office desktop apps and additional management and security tools plus Microsoft\u2019s best-in-class intelligent security management, advanced compliance, and analytics systems.\u00a0<\/em><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft OneDrive<\/strong> &#8211; As with the Microsoft 365 Software above, you may need to move from a University to a personal license for this service. <span data-teams=\"true\">Currently, M365 A5 subscribers receive 100GB of online storage.\u00a0 Once you graduate and change to an A1 license, this storage quota will remain 100GB.<\/span> Be sure to backup any items from your \u2018OneDrive \u2013 Marshall University\u2019 account which you need to keep. If you would like to purchase a personal Microsoft 365 subscription visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/microsoft-365\/buy\/compare-all-microsoft-365-products\">Microsoft 365<\/a> and create a new account. When signing up for a new Microsoft 365, be sure to use an email address different than your @marshall.edu email address.
