{"id":19380,"date":"2025-08-11T12:09:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T16:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/it\/?p=19380"},"modified":"2025-08-20T23:43:41","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T03:43:41","slug":"passwordchange-081125","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/it\/2025\/08\/11\/passwordchange-081125\/","title":{"rendered":"[IMPORTANT IT SERVICE NOTIFICATION]:  Effective Change to Your University Password"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What\u2019s Changing?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On May 13, 2025, Marshall University Information Technology (MUIT) updated the marshall.edu password standard for all new and changed passwords, enhancing security and aligning with university policy ITP-1 guidelines and best practices. \u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/policies\">www.marshall.edu\/policies<\/a>) \u00a0Below are the updated requirements:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Updated Password Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Minimum length:<\/strong> 12 characters<\/li>\n<li><strong>Must include at least three of the following:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Uppercase letter<\/li>\n<li>Lowercase letter<\/li>\n<li>Number<\/li>\n<li>Special character\u202f(! *$%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Must be unique and different from any previously used password<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The last 500 passwords will be remembered<\/strong> (previous passwords cannot be reused)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Account lockout:<\/strong> 10 minutes after five consecutive failed login attempts<\/li>\n<li><strong>No maximum password age<\/strong> (passwords will not expire unless changed by the user)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Action Needed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have <strong>not<\/strong> changed your Marshall account password <strong>since May 13, 2025<\/strong>, beginning <strong>Tuesday, September 9, 2025,<\/strong> your account may prompt you to complete a password reset upon the next sign in.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll receive an email indicating when the change will officially take place.<\/p>\n<p>You may proactively change your password today by following the directions found on <a href=\"https:\/\/mymu.marshall.edu\/s\/article\/Reset-or-Change-Marshall-MUNet-Account-Password\">Reset or Change Marshall (MUNet) Account Password<\/a> .\u00a0 Once your password has been changed, you will use this new password for logging onto Marshall computers and services.<\/p>\n<p>This is a one-time change, and you will NOT be asked to update your password again through this process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Security Tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Legitimate MUIT password change notices:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Come from <strong>marshall.edu<\/strong> e-mail address<\/li>\n<li>Are announced in advance<\/li>\n<li>Direct you to official <strong>marshall.edu<\/strong> webpages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Phishing attempts often:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create urgency (\u201cchange it now or lose access\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Use unfamiliar sender addresses or domains<\/li>\n<li>Link to non-marshall.edu sites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When in doubt, check first:<\/strong> Contact the MUIT Service Desk (contact information below) before clicking suspicious links or entering your credentials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Support:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Additional Information and Technical assistance please contact:<\/p>\n<p><strong>MUIT Service Desk\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit a Ticket\u00a0\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/mymu.marshall.edu\/s\/contactsupport\">MyMU\u00a0&#8211; Contact Support<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Stop By the MUIT Service Desk \u2013 1st\u00a0floor Drinko Library, Room 141<\/li>\n<li>Give us a call \u2013 Telephone: 304-696-3200<\/li>\n<li>Live Chat \u2013 on any MUIT webpage \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/it\">www.marshall.edu\/it<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s Changing?
