Hosted by Marshall University’s June Harless Center, the Early Learning Technical Assistance Center offers high-quality professional learning and support related to the P-5 West Virginia College- and Career- Readiness Standards.<\/p>\n

The West Virginia Department of Education’s Early Learning Technical Assistance Center (ELTAC) exists to ensure a unified commitment to excellence and equity in P-5 education.<\/p>\n

Vision<\/h3>\n

It is our vision that West Virginia educators will feel prepared to meet the literacy needs of the children within their <\/span><\/span>schools.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mission<\/h3>\n

The ELTAC strives to be a platform upon which educators across the state of West Virginia can stand in order to <\/span>elevate their educational practices to improve reading and writing achievement for all children as they progress\u00a0<\/span>through P-5 education.<\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n

Why<\/h3>\n

When school communities can deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction and support, children will be better prepared to succeed in school and eventually graduate prepared for college, a career, and active citizenship.<\/p>\n

How<\/h3>\n

The ELTAC is established to provide high-quality professional learning, research, and other resources to communities that serve children through grade five across the state of West Virginia.<\/p>\n

The ELTAC is proud to support Ready, Read, Write, West Virginia, an initiative created by the West Virginia Department of Education to increase literacy proficiency for all students. It is rooted in the science of reading and based on the belief that all students can learn to read proficiently with effective reading instruction. The June Harless Center in partnership with the West Virginia Department of Education employs and supports Instructional Support Specialists (ISS) in three counties in WV; Braxton, Hardy, and Upshur.\u00a0\u00a0The Early and Elementary Learning Specialists at the June Harless Center provide training, support, and mentoring for the ISS.\u00a0\u00a0The ISS work with educators, instructional leaders, coaches, support personnel, principals, and others to help transform classrooms into highly engaging and effective learning environments focused on high-quality, evidence-based reading instruction.\u00a0 This 3-year project includes support for educators who serve children in grades 1 and 2.<\/header>\n
