The information is provided to let people know what has been banned\/challenged elsewhere.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>2021<\/h2>\n<p>Parents with children in the Polo Park Middle School in Wellington (FL) reached out to WPTV NewsChannel 5 with concerns about this middle-grade novel about a transgender girl and a boy with bipolar disorder. The parents \u201cdidn\u2019t want to speak on camera out of fear of retaliation\u201d but said they wish they had been made aware of the classroom assignment before their students were given the book. They also said \u201ctopics like sex education require consent forms and [they] feel topics like mental illness and gender identity should be treated similarly, with notification to parents beforehand.\u201d Retained.<\/p>\n<h2>2019<\/h2>\n<p>Citing &#8220;sexual content,&#8221; issues of bullying, rebelling against police, and refusing to take medications, <b>Lily and Dunkin<\/b>, <b>George<\/b> by Alex Gino, and <b>I Am Jazz<\/b> by Jazz Jennings and Jessica Herthel were challenged at the Andover (KS) Public Library. The request was to remove the books from the children&#8217;s area. After a review process, the library decided to retain them all as cataloged.
