A newly elected school board member raised the controversy based on excerpts from the books she&#8217;d found on the Internet.<\/p>\n<h2>2006<\/h2>\n<p>Removed from the Blue Valley School District&#8217;s high school curriculum in Overland Park (KS).<\/p>\n<h2>2005<\/h2>\n<p>Challenged for racism, offensive language and violence.<\/p>\n<h2>2004<\/h2>\n<p>Banned at the Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis (IN) because of concerns about the book&#8217;s profanity. The book was assigned in English classes for sophomores.<\/p>\n<h2>2003<\/h2>\n<p>Challenged in Fairfax (VA) school libraries by a group called Parents Against Bad Books in Schools for &#8220;profanity and descriptions of drug abuse, sexually explicit conduct and torture&#8221;.
