{"id":162,"date":"2016-09-16T16:07:46","date_gmt":"2016-09-16T21:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/?page_id=162"},"modified":"2025-10-15T20:15:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T00:15:11","slug":"application","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/graduate\/application\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Degree Application Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are two (2) separate applications:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Application for Admission to the <em>Master of Science in Mathematics<\/em> program\n<ul>\n<li>Admissions Only applications do not require <abbr title=\"General Record Examination\">GRE<\/abbr> scores.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/graduate\/assistantships\/\">Application for a <em>Graduate Assistantship<\/em><\/a> (Optional)\n<ul>\n<li>Graduate Assistantship applications require <abbr title=\"General Record Examination\">GRE<\/abbr> scores to be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Application for Admission<\/h2>\n<p>To apply to the Mathematics Graduate program, applicants must follow the process described at the following page(s):<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/graduate-admissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply for Admission through the Marshall University Graduate College<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/international-admissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply for International Admission through the Marshall University Graduate College<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Admission Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Applicants to the Mathematics Graduate program must follow the Graduate College admissions process described in the:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.marshall.edu\/graduate\/programs-az\/science\/mathematics-ma\/#admissionrequirementstext\">Marshall University Graduate Catalog<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/graduate-admissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Graduate Admissions Requirements webpage<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In Addition:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants must have a <abbr title=\"Grade Point Average\">GPA<\/abbr> of at least 2.5 on a scale of 4 from the bachelor\u2019s degree granting institution. International applicants should contact the Office of International Admissions to inquire about possible substitute documentation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants may optionally report scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants who choose to send scores should send them directly to the Graduate Admissions office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>General Record Examination (GRE) scores are <em>required<\/em> for applications for the <em>Mathematics Graduate Assistantship<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Deadlines<\/h2>\n<p>To ensure full consideration for admission:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Domestic applicants must ensure that their application materials are received by the Graduate Admissions office no later than August 1 for admission in the fall, and no later than December 1 for admission in the spring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>International applicants must ensure that their application materials are received by the Graduate Admissions office no later than June 15, for admission in the fall, and no later than October 15, for admission in the spring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants who apply for a <em>Graduate Assistantship<\/em> should follow the earlier dates set in the section:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/graduate\/assistantships\/\">Timeframe for Awarding Graduate Assistantships<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Conditional Admission<\/h2>\n<p>The Mathematics program may admit applicants conditionally, for one term, pending receipt of required credentials. Applicants whose transcripts do not show coursework equivalent to a bachelor\u2019s degree in mathematics may be admitted conditionally and required to take additional foundational courses, which may include undergraduate courses.
