Students with a Graduate Assistantship receive a stipend in addition to a tuition benefit to partially offset tuition costs. Mathematics Graduate Assistantships are normally offered only to students in the Master of Science in Mathematics degree program.\n<div class=\"marsha-row mt-4 mb-4 flex flex-wrap -mx-2 lg:-mx-6  justify-start border-0 border-gray-100 first:mt-0\">\n\t\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-9\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\">\n<div class=\"\">\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2>How to Apply for a Mathematics Graduate Assistantship<\/h2>\n<p>The Mathematics Program offers a limited number of Graduate Assistantships. Applicants wishing to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship must submit a separate application form to the Department of Mathematics Assistant Chair for Graduate Studies.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-3\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\">\n<div class=\"\">\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 250px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/files\/Bindu_Berhane2017.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"marsha-row mt-4 mb-4 flex flex-wrap -mx-2 lg:-mx-6  justify-start border-0 border-gray-100 first:mt-0\">\n\t\n<div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-9\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\">\n<div class=\"\">\n\n<strong>Application Form<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Graduate Assistantship application form can be obtained from the Assistant Chair for Graduate Studies or downloaded: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/files\/GA-Application-2021.pdf\">Math GA Application<\/a> (PDF).\n<p>Additional requirements for Graduate Assistant applications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The applicant should arrange for no more than three (3) letters of recommendation supporting the application. Letters may be sent by email or by postal mail directly by the referees to:<br \/>\nAssistant Chair for Graduate Studies, Department of Mathematics, One John Marshall Drive, Huntington WV, 25755.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The applicant must also submit a personal statement not more than two pages in length. This statement should describe the applicant&#8217;s background, motivation for studying mathematics, future plans, and any other topics relevant to the applicant&#8217;s qualifications for a Graduate Assistantship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants for a Graduate Assistantship must also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/graduate\/application\/\">Apply for Admission to the Master of Science in Mathematics degree program<\/a> and send General Record Examination (GRE) scores to the Graduate Admissions office. A Graduate Assistantship application cannot be considered until the application for admission to the degree program is complete.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.75 on a scale of 4 from the bachelor&#8217;s degree granting institution is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-3\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\">\n<div class=\"\">\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 250px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/files\/Jumya_Kevin2017.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 250px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/math\/files\/Jessie_Christina.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"marsha-row mt-4 mb-4 flex flex-wrap -mx-2 lg:-mx-6  justify-start border-0 border-gray-100 first:mt-0\">\n\t\n<div class=\"columns w-full lg:w-9\/12  lg:px-6    mt-6\">\n<div class=\"\">\n\n<h2>Timeframe for Awarding Graduate Assistantships<\/h2>\n<p>Offers for Graduate Assistantships will be made beginning after May 15, for admission the following fall, and November 15, for admission the following spring. Applicants should ensure their materials are received before these dates to ensure full consideration.
