Some of Bethany\u2019s favorite memories are of the time they spent together at Marshall football games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe bought season tickets so he could take my brother and me, not just to watch football, but to build a connection to the university and the community around it.<\/p>\n<p>His pride in Marshall always stuck with Bethany and made the university feel like more than just a school.<\/p>\n<p>Bethany\u2019s ultimate decision to attend Marshall included her family connection, the proximity to home and the overall sense of belonging she felt on campus.<\/p>\n<div class=\"block border-t-2 border-b-2 py-6 mt-6 lg:border-t-0 lg:border-b-0 mb-8 lg:float-left lg:pr-6 lg:py-6 lg:w-1\/3 lg:-ml-24 xl:-ml-32 lg:mt-4 lg:mr-8 lg:mb-4 lg:border-r-4 border-green \">\n\t<span class=\"text-gray-700 font-semibold text-lg leading-5 bg-repeat-x bg-size-[100%_6px] bg-position-[0_90%] bg-linear-to-r from-green\/10 to-green\/10\">The first time I stepped onto Marshall\u2019s campus, it immediately felt like home.<\/span>\n\n\t\t\t<span class=\"block text-right w-full mt-4 uppercase font-medium\">- Bethany Ledford<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<p>\u201cThe first time I stepped onto Marshall\u2019s campus, it immediately felt like home,\u201d she said. \u201cThe sense of community, support and belonging here is truly unmatched. Marshall isn\u2019t just a university, it\u2019s a family. That feeling is something you can\u2019t find just anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although Ashland is located within the Tri-State region and is just a short drive from Huntington, crossing the state line to attend college felt like a meaningful step for Bethany.<\/p>\n<p>Marshall\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/metro\/\">metro tuition rate<\/a> which allows students from nearby counties in Kentucky and Ohio to attend at a reduced tuition rate, also contributed to Bethany\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though my main reasons for choosing Marshall weren&#8217;t financial, the Metro Tuition rate made it much more affordable as an out-of-state student and took a lot of pressure off when it came to actually being able to attend,\u201d Bethany said.<\/p>\n<p>Her family celebrated her choice to attend Marshall, especially her mother, who was excited she would be close to home. Exploring different fields led her to computer science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/academics\/programs\/computer-science-bs\/\">Computer science<\/a> was the perfect balance of logic and creativity for me. In a digital humanities class, she built a website from scratch focused on an issue affecting the Tri-State region, and a challenging course with Dr. Husnu Narmon pushed her to develop a fitness app and build confidence in her abilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned that I\u2019m capable of far more than I initially believed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bethany has fully embraced campus life, serving as vice president of membership for Delta Zeta and participating in intramural volleyball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing involved on campus has shaped my leadership style to be both structured and empathetic,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve learned the importance of preparation, organization and accountability, while also understanding that leadership means listening, adapting and supporting others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marshall traditions like homecoming week, the annual Memorial Fountain Ceremony and attending football games have become touchstones of her college experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose moments capture everything special about this campus: community, pride and shared experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marshall has shaped Bethany academically, personally and professionally, but it also holds a deeply emotional place in her heart.<\/p>\n<div class=\"block border-t-2 border-b-2 py-6 mt-6 lg:border-t-0 lg:border-b-0 mb-8 lg:float-right lg:pl-8 lg:py-6 lg:w-1\/3 lg:-mr-24 xl:-mr-32 lg:mt-4 lg:ml-8 lg:mb-4 lg:border-l-4 border-green \">\n\t<span class=\"text-gray-700 font-semibold text-lg leading-5 bg-repeat-x bg-size-[100%_6px] bg-position-[0_90%] bg-linear-to-r from-green\/10 to-green\/10\">I think my dad would be incredibly proud.<\/span>\n\n\t\t\t<span class=\"block text-right w-full mt-4 uppercase font-medium\">- Bethany Ledford<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<p>\u201cI think my dad would be incredibly proud. Knowing I\u2019m continuing a legacy he cared so deeply about means everything to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After graduating, Bethany plans to continue her education at Marshall by pursuing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/academics\/programs\/business-administration-mba\/\">master\u2019s of business administration<\/a>, combining her technical background with leadership and management training.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back, she sees her decision to attend Marshall not only as a tribute to her father but also as a defining chapter of her own story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid to choose a place that already feels like home,\u201d Bethany said. \u201cMarshall offers incredible opportunities while still providing a strong sense of community and support.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For Bethany Ledford, choosing Marshall University wasn\u2019t just a college decision, it was the continuation of a family legacy.
