The moment Taveion Kinsey pulled on a Team USA jersey, everything it took to get there came rushing with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was everything,\u201d Kinsey said. \u201cJust like putting Marshall across your chest, having USA across your chest, it\u2019s bigger than anybody.\u201d \"Image<\/p>\n

For Kinsey, the opportunity to represent his country in the 2026 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in early March wasn\u2019t just another step in his career. It was a reflection of it. Every early morning workout. Every game at Marshall. Every mile traveled since. From Huntington to the international stage, his journey has never been about shortcuts. It\u2019s been about staying ready and staying true. Kinsey\u2019s path to this point wasn\u2019t paved with early spotlight. It was built in repetition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been playing since I was 6,\u201d he said. \u201cMy dad would wake me up early, take me to the gym, we\u2019d go get lunch, then come back and do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

That rhythm – work, recover, work again – became second nature. So did his belief in where it could take him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to be an NBA player, that dream has never changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marshall became the place where that dream found structure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t even take a full visit,\u201d the Columbus, Ohio native said. \u201cIt just felt like home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"ImageAt Marshall, Kinsey found more than a program, he found a system that mirrored the future of basketball. Under head coach Dan D\u2019Antoni, the Thundering Herd played fast, free and fearless. Long before it became common across college basketball, Marshall\u2019s offense reflected the pace and spacing of the professional game.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Dan was a pioneer,\u201d Kinsey said. \u201cHe let us play, he trusted us to make decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n

That trust helped shape Kinsey into one of the most dynamic players in program history and prepared him for the next level. Equally impactful was then-assistant coach Cornelius \u201cCorny\u201d Jackson, now Marshall\u2019s head coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Cornelius Jackson was the one who recruited me,\u201d Kinsey said. \u201cThat\u2019s my guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those relationships rooted in trust and consistency became the backbone of Kinsey\u2019s five-year career. By the time Kinsey left Huntington, his name was everywhere in the Marshall record book.<\/p>\n
