Marshall\u2019s warm, close-knit community inspired her dream of becoming a Pediatric Physician Associate in an Emergency Department.<\/p>\n<div class=\"block border-t-2 border-b-2 py-6 mt-6 lg:border-t-0 lg:border-b-0 mb-8 lg:float-left lg:pr-6 lg:py-6 lg:w-1\/3 lg:-ml-24 xl:-ml-32 lg:mt-4 lg:mr-8 lg:mb-4 lg:border-r-4 border-green \">\n\t<span class=\"text-gray-700 font-semibold text-lg leading-5 bg-repeat-x bg-size-[100%_6px] bg-position-[0_90%] bg-linear-to-r from-green\/10 to-green\/10\"> &#8220;Marshall\u2019s warm, close-knit community inspired her dream of becoming a Pediatric Physician Associate&#8221;<\/span>\n\n\t\t\t<span class=\"block text-right w-full mt-4 uppercase font-medium\">-  Lauren Barr <\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<p>She brought that dream with her this past summer to the Center for Courageous Kids, a medical camp serving children with various illnesses. Over eight weeks, she served as a den counselor, caring for and guiding groups of children. Their days were filled with ensuring the children&#8217;s needs were met, accompanying them from activity to activity, and most importantly, ensuring they had a memorable time at camp.<\/p>\n<p>For Barr, this connection to the Center for Courageous Kids ran deep. A personal history with her brother\u2019s almost 18-year triumph over cancer had forged an everlasting bond with the center and its mission.<\/p>\n<div class=\"block border-t-2 border-b-2 py-6 mt-6 lg:border-t-0 lg:border-b-0 mb-8 lg:float-right lg:pl-8 lg:py-6 lg:w-1\/3 lg:-mr-24 xl:-mr-32 lg:mt-4 lg:ml-8 lg:mb-4 lg:border-l-4 border-green \">\n\t<span class=\"text-gray-700 font-semibold text-lg leading-5 bg-repeat-x bg-size-[100%_6px] bg-position-[0_90%] bg-linear-to-r from-green\/10 to-green\/10\"> &#8220;Knowing the magic of CCK and how amazing of an experience it is to be a camper, it has been my dream to be on the summer staff&#8221;<\/span>\n\n\t\t\t<span class=\"block text-right w-full mt-4 uppercase font-medium\">-  Lauren Barr <\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<p>\u201cKnowing the magic of CCK and how amazing of an experience it is to be a camper, it has been my dream to be on the summer staff,\u201d Barr said. \u201cThis summer, I got to fulfill that dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While it was a summer of fun, Barr was also able to fulfill her capstone experience while serving as a counselor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-434 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/moments\/files\/2023\/11\/1000010028-e1700582545147-300x277.jpg\" alt=\"Lauren Barr with three additional counselors at the Center for Courageous Kids \" width=\"300\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/moments\/files\/2023\/11\/1000010028-e1700582545147-300x277.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/moments\/files\/2023\/11\/1000010028-e1700582545147.jpg 739w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarshall gave me the knowledge on how to act in the workplace, how to care for people, how to interact with others, and the academic information needed to complete the papers required throughout my capstone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Being able to witness firsthand the resilience of medically complex children solidified her dedication to working with young patients.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on her time at Marshall University, she expressed gratitude for the exceptional professors who had shaped their academic journey. Dr. Liz Pacioles, Dr. Georgiana Logan, Dr. Autumn Starcher-Patton, and Dr. Bonita Lawrence were beacons of wisdom and support, leaving an indelible mark on her educational experience, Barr said.<\/p>\n<p>Her favorite memory from her time at the Center for Courageous Kids was a heartfelt letter from a camper.
