{"id":190,"date":"2025-09-23T16:01:39","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T20:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/?page_id=190"},"modified":"2026-02-16T12:36:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T17:36:04","slug":"meet-the-dogs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/meet-the-dogs\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the Dogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Learn more about the therapy dogs who are currently part of the MU PAWS program.\u00a0 They spend time on campus and represent MU PAWS at events throughout the community.\u00a0 Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/events\/\">here<\/a> to see a list of upcoming events featuring our therapy dogs.\u00a0 Therapy dog teams that volunteer in the residence halls during weekly<em> Paw-ffice Hours<\/em> have the locations noted in their bios.<\/p>\n<h2>Isabella<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-192\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Isabella-Buskirk-03-14-2025-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Isabella-Buskirk-03-14-2025-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Isabella-Buskirk-03-14-2025-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Isabella-Buskirk-03-14-2025-2-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Isabella the sheltie is one of MU PAWS&#8217; founding dogs and a staple of the program.\u00a0 She had heart surgery while just a seven month old puppy and now gives back to those experiencing health issues by volunteering as a therapy dog at Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary&#8217;s Medical Center, and hospice.\u00a0 She is also a regular fixture at on-campus events and in Buskirk Hall where the residents call her a &#8220;girl&#8217;s girl&#8221;.\u00a0 She could just be the most popular girl on campus.\u00a0 Isabella&#8217;s favorite things are playing ball and getting attention, but rump rubs are a close second.\u00a0 Paw-ffice Hours Location: Buskirk Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Handlers: Robin Ash and Dick Ash, community members<\/p>\n<h2>Luna<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-193\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Luna-August-2024-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Luna-August-2024-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Luna-August-2024-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Luna-August-2024-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Luna is a free spirit and the unofficial mascot of the Department of Housing and Residence Life where her handlers work.\u00a0 A true pound puppy, she was adopted from the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association in 2022.\u00a0 She is easily recognized across campus by her striking facial coloring.\u00a0 Luna loves chasing Marshall&#8217;s squirrels almost as much as she loves getting pets.\u00a0 You will frequently find her laying on the couches in the Twin Towers lounges surrounded by adoring students.\u00a0 \u00a0She has mastered the art of staring at students who pass her by, making them feel guilty until they visit her.\u00a0 Paw-ffice Hours Locations: Twin Towers East and Twin Towers West.<\/p>\n<p>Handlers: Mistie Bibbee and Emily C. Roush, Department of Housing and Residence Life<\/p>\n<h2>Chloe<\/h2>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Chloe-Fall-2025-6-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Chloe-Fall-2025-6-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Chloe-Fall-2025-6-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Chloe-Fall-2025-6-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Chloe, the teeny weenie, is a small but mighty mini-dachshund. There is a lot of personality in that little body, and she is proof that age is just a number.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t let her advanced years fool you; Chloe is still full of life, and she loves visiting with students. She also loves the squirrels and birds on campus and is convinced she can catch one of them.\u00a0 At home Chloe is in charge of her younger but much larger mastiff and pit bull brothers. In addition to spending time in First Year North, she has her own <em>Paw-ffice <\/em>in the Center for Student Success in East Hall where her handler works.\u00a0 Paw-ffice Hours Locations: First Year North and the Center for Student Success in East Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Handler: Mary Thompson, Center for Student Success<\/p>\n<h2>Arya<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-185\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Dog-Gone-Days-w-CAB-08-26-2025-6-resized-300x193.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Dog-Gone-Days-w-CAB-08-26-2025-6-resized-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Dog-Gone-Days-w-CAB-08-26-2025-6-resized-1024x658.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/Dog-Gone-Days-w-CAB-08-26-2025-6-resized.png 1101w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Arya is a five year old golden retriever who enjoys going for daily walks in her neighborhood and chasing squirrels, which she finds in abundance on Marshall&#8217;s campus.\u00a0 She loves attention, treats, and her stuffed animals which her family calls her &#8220;puppies&#8221;.\u00a0 Arya is a pure cuddlebug who loves to give and receive hugs.\u00a0 She enjoys spending time with people of all ages.\u00a0 In addition to volunteering at on-campus events, she volunteers at local hospitals and elementary and middle schools.\u00a0 If you are having a bad day, Arya will be there to hold your hand through it.\u00a0 Paw-ffice Hours Location: Gibson Hall<\/p>\n<p>Handler: Stacey Whitmore, community member<\/p>\n<h2>Bindi Blu<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-319\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/IMG_0592-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/IMG_0592-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/IMG_0592-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/IMG_0592-scaled.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bindi Blu is a five-year-old teacup Australian Shepherd.\u00a0 While itty bitty, Bindi is a true shepherd who loves to herd staff and students throughout Myers Hall where her handler works. She lives in Huntington with her parents, a human sister who nicknamed her Ph.DD, plus dog, cat, turtle, and squirrel siblings.\u00a0 Bindi&#8217;s favorite colors are pink, and of course green.\u00a0 She is a fashionista, and you will often see her sporting outfits with her favorite hues.\u00a0 \u00a0When not working, she loves to travel to dog hotels and trade therapy for treats.\u00a0 Paw-ffice Hours Location: First Year South.<\/p>\n<p>Handler: Amy Jones, Marshall University HELP Program<\/p>\n<h2>Ruben<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-198\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/IMG_3035-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/IMG_3035-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/IMG_3035-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/09\/IMG_3035.jpg 1125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ruben the dachshund is a regal fellow and a bit of a Casanova, as he tends to cozy up to the ladies when attending on-campus events.\u00a0 A typical dachshund, he has an excellent sense of smell and is adept as sniffing out treats.\u00a0 You will not meet a more determined finder of food.\u00a0 He loves attention and will use those puppy dog eyes to his advantage.\u00a0 In addition to volunteering with MU PAWS, Ruben gives back to the veteran community by volunteering at the VA with his handler who is a veteran herself.<\/p>\n<p>Handler: Kelly Finch, community member<\/p>\n<h2>Zorro<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Cocoa-and-Cuddles-12-4-2025-5-1-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Cocoa-and-Cuddles-12-4-2025-5-1-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Cocoa-and-Cuddles-12-4-2025-5-1-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/mupaws\/files\/2025\/12\/Cocoa-and-Cuddles-12-4-2025-5-1.jpeg 1831w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Zorro is a poodle who loves to meet and greet his Marshall friends and get lots of pets. He loves to go to his school too, where he hangs out with his dog friends and learns new skills so he can compete in obedience trials.
