Miller Analogies Test

The Miller Analogies Test, practice tests, and study guide will be discontinued in November 2023. We will continue to offer testing until November 15, 2023. Official transcripts and personal score reports will be available to examinees upon request at Pearson Assessments’ website (https://www.pearsonassessments.com/graduate-admissions/mat/about.html) for 2 years thereafter (until November 2025).

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level test of analytical ability that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. The MAT consists of 120 partial analogies which you have 60 minutes to complete. The test measures your ability to recognize relationships between ideas, your fluency in the English language, and your general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics and social sciences. The test is computer based.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the test cost?

Seventy-five dollars ($75.00). Payment must be made on the day of the test. Cash (EXACT AMOUNT – WE DO NOT KEEP CHANGE) or check made out to MUSC Library is accepted.

What do I need to bring with me to the test?

Two forms of i.d., one of which must be a photo i.d. Details on this and other requirements are listed in the Candidate Information Booklet. The booklet and MAT Study Guide are available for download at www.milleranalogies.com. Please review this material prior to taking the exam. After the exam begins, proctors cannot answer questions.

How long does the test take?

The test is a timed, 60 minute exam. Allow at least 90 minutes total for the registration process and exam.

What score do I need to be admitted?

Please contact the program/department to which you are applying. Admission requirements vary from program to program. If you need to retake the exam, you may re-register for the next available date. There is no waiting period. Proctors do not have admission or scoring information.

How long does it take to get my score?

An unofficial score is generated immediately after the test is completed. Official scores are sent to you and to the school to which you have applied within three to four weeks.

In the MU South Charleston Campus Library.

From Huntington (coming east on I-64)

Take Exit 56 (Montrose Dr). Take Exit 56 (Montrose Dr.). Go straight at traffic light at end of off ramp. This is Kanawha Turnpike. Go straight at next stop sign (Central Ave. intersection). Continue approx. ½ mile (follow MUSC signs) until Kanawha Turnpike ends and you must turn left. Take the first left at the top of the hill and go around the first building to the Robert C. Byrd Academic and Technology Center. Library is located on the first floor.

From Charleston, Beckley, Parkersburg (coming west on I-64)

Go west on I-64 through Charleston towards Huntington. Take Exit 56 (Montrose Dr.). Turn left at traffic light at end of off ramp. Get in right lane and turn right at next light. This is Kanawha Turnpike. Go straight at next stop sign (Central Ave. intersection). Continue approx. ½ mile (follow MUSC signs) until Kanawha Turnpike ends and you must turn left. Take the first left at the top of the hill and go around the first building to the Robert C. Byrd Academic and Technology Center. Library is located on the first floor.

From Corridor G (coming north from Logan, Madison, etc)

Take the Davis Creek Rd. exit. Turn left at light and continue for approx. 2 miles to the next light. Turn right at light onto Kanawha Turnpike. Go up the hill, past Dow Chemical on right. Take next right (Angus E. Peyton Dr.). Take the first left at the top of the hill and go around the first building to the Robert C. Byrd Academic and Technology Center. Library is located on the first floor.
