Professor Emeritus Dr. Gary D. Anderson of Marshall University’s Department of Chemistry was named a Fellow with the American Chemical Society and will be recognized at the society’s fall national meeting in San Diego in August. The ACS Fellows program honors members for outstanding achievements in and contributions to science, the profession and the society.

Pam Holland, director of clinical education for Marshall University’s Department of Communication Disorders, has received board certification in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S), making her the only swallowing specialist in West Virginia certified by the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. Holland, a speech-language pathologist (SLP) in the university’s Speech and Hearing Center, said she has been working on this certification for four years.

New research from Marshall University links walnut consumption as a contributing factor that could suppress growth and survival of breast cancers.

James B. Becker, M.D., vice dean for government relations, health care policy and external affairs for the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and an associate professor in the department of family and community health, has been named the 25th Distinguished John Deaver Drinko Academy Fellow at Marshall University.

Dr. Joseph Beckett has been named to the 2019 class of the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association (MAATA) Hall of Fame, which is the highest award presented by the MAATA. Beckett is the third person from West Virginia ever selected for the MAATA Hall of Fame and the first from Marshall University.

Gary O. Rankin, Ph.D., a professor and vice dean for basic sciences at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, has been named the recipient of the 2019 Career Award from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) Division for Toxicology.

Dr. Marianna Footo-Linz, chair of the Department of Psychology in Marshall’s College of Liberal Arts, has received the Cynthia D. Belar Education Advocacy Distinguished Service Award from the American Psychological Association Board of Educational Affairs.

Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine researcher W. Christopher Risher, Ph.D., has been awarded a NARSAD Young Investigator Grant for his work with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).

Dr. Zach Garrett of the Marshall University College of Health Professions has been named to the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association (MAATA) Critical Incident Stress Management Committee. Garrett, program clinical coordinator for the college’s athletic training program, is one of two representatives chosen from the state of West Virginia.

Craig Coleman of the Marshall University College of Health Professions has been selected as a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
