The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) inducted 14 new members during a ceremony March 11.

More than 279 students and post-doctoral trainees, residents and fellows participated in the 32nd Annual Marshall University Health Science Research Day on Friday, March 6, at the Marshall University Medical Center.

Marshall University has several activities planned in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gave women the right to vote. The yearlong celebration is already underway and will continue with academic, campus-wide and community activities that both recognize this critical accomplishment of America’s courageous, trailblazing 20th Century women and encourage today’s American women to wield their voting power.

The Marshall University Board of Governors has approved the creation of a new academic degree and major leading to a Bachelor of Science degree, Commercial Pilot-Fixed Wing.

All four chief residents from the general surgery residency program at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine have successfully matched into subspecialty fellowship programs for the second time in program history.

Dr. Henning Vauth, a professor of piano in Marshall University’s School of Music, traveled to Taipei, Taiwan, Feb. 6-18 to be a member of the faculty and jury for the International Maestro Piano Festival and Competition.

Timothy Long, Ph.D., an associate professor at the Marshall University School of Pharmacy, along with Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine colleagues Monica Valentovic, Ph.D., professor of biomedical sciences, and Hongwei Yu, Ph.D., professor of biomedical sciences, have received a three-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the use of disulfiram in the treatment of antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections.

Marshall University’s Office of Career Education will host Job-A-Palooza, a part-time job and internship fair, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in the Memorial Student Center lobby on the Huntington campus. The event is open to all Marshall students, faculty and alumni. 

The deadline for nominations for Marshall University’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications’ (SOJMC) upcoming Hall of Fame class is Thursday, March 12.

The Center for Consumer Law and Education (CCLE) will host a “People’s Law School” event at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in Room 402 of Marshall University’s Drinko Library.
