{"id":22684,"date":"2021-08-25T11:55:24","date_gmt":"2021-08-25T15:55:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=22684"},"modified":"2021-08-25T16:32:11","modified_gmt":"2021-08-25T20:32:11","slug":"marshall-university-first-year-pharmacy-students-receive-white-coats-scholarship-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2021\/08\/marshall-university-first-year-pharmacy-students-receive-white-coats-scholarship-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"First-year pharmacy students receive white coats, scholarship awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\">Marshall University<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/pharmacy\">School of Pharmacy<\/a> formally welcomed its first-year pharmacy students at its 10<sup>th<\/sup> annual White Coat Ceremony, Friday, August 20, in the Don Morris Room at the Memorial Student Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tradition, which dates back to the late 1800s, welcomes pharmacy students beginning their path to one of the most trusted professions,\u201d said Gayle Brazeau, dean of the School of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n<p>The Class of 2025 includes students ranging in age from 18-38, and more than half are Marshall undergraduate alumni.<\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony, students were presented with their white coats and recited the \u201cOath of a Pharmacist.\u201d Keynote speakers Ric Griffith, R.Ph., and his daughter Heidi Griffith Romero, Pharm.D., emphasized the importance of developing relationships with patients and the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake the world better than you found it,\u201d said Griffith, owner of Girffith and Feil Drug in Kenova, West Virginia. He and his daughter serve patients at the local pharmacy, which was established in 1892.<\/p>\n<p>The following scholarships were also presented at the event:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The Gateway Scholarship<\/em> ($9,500) \u2013 Holly Ramey and David Shore<\/li>\n<li>M<em>arshall University School of Pharmacy Stephen J Kopp Academic Excellence Award (<\/em>$2,500) \u2013 Katherine Duty and David Shore<\/li>\n<li><em>Marshall University School of Pharmacy Don Perdue Award<\/em> ($2,500) \u2013Holly Ramey<\/li>\n<li><em>Mary H. and J.
