{"id":22818,"date":"2021-10-01T14:05:13","date_gmt":"2021-10-01T18:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/?p=22818"},"modified":"2021-10-04T15:45:43","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T19:45:43","slug":"marshall-university-to-kick-off-homecoming-with-unity-walk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/news\/2021\/10\/marshall-university-to-kick-off-homecoming-with-unity-walk\/","title":{"rendered":"Homecoming activities kick off with Unity Walk"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Marshall University will officially kick off Homecoming week with its annual signature event, the Unity Walk.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in the event march around the Huntington campus each year, with a bold display of unity, inclusion and oneness, mixed with food, fellowship and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The idea behind the event is deeply rooted in the #MarshallUFamily mantra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe jubilant experience of the annual Unity Walk moves us from the feeling to the real personalization of unity, social kinship and family closeness,\u201d said Maurice Cooley, vice president for intercultural affairs and dean of students. \u201cThe annual reunion will continue to uplift the importance of unity, while bringing new members of the family each year into the fold, constantly building our ties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Activities begin at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, with special speakers, including Men\u2019s Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie, Marshall University President Dr. Jerome Gilbert, Student Body President Alyssa Parks and Cooley, who organizes the event each year.<\/p>\n<p>The path for the walk begins at the Rec Center, then half of the group turns toward 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Avenue on 20<sup>th<\/sup> Street while the other half of the group turns toward 5<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue.
